Recording Into Stereo?

Everytime i go to record and i wanna record my beat into a wav file on my mpc...i change the the mono to stereo and it recoreds and i will only be able to hear in one ear...so i change it to mono L and it only records in mono but i can hear in both ears...its confusing

That means that you are listening to the left side in BOTH ears, that's not stereo, it's just 2 speakers playing the LEFT side.

is there something wrng with that..im gettin confused what do i need to do?
