Need a straight answer about uploading an OS!

ok, so i want to upload the new akai os. can i go ahead an do it or do i need to back every thing on the harddrive up first? i just wanna know before uploading cuz i'm worried my files will delete. call me paranoid.

its not supposed to erase anything but things can go very wrong when updating firmware on any device.


and for that matter id do regular backups depending on how critical your work is.

ok, what's the best way to backup all my files that are on my mpc? sorry, dont know much about this.

back them up. The update shouldn't hurt them, but Akai recommends to reformat the drive after an upgrade. So, if you do that, you will loose them unless you back up.

back them up how? on my computer? if so how do i do that?

Did you get a USB cable with the MPC?

yes. i saved a folder of my beats on my computer, but it wont open unless the mpc is connected by usb. is that how im supposed to do it?

"Backing up" means making a copy of something to store somewhere else. So in case you **** up the original somehow, you still have a version as spare. So "back up" your stuff somewhere else than your MPC, for example...your PC.

Hmm, I never actually thought about using the USB cable to save my projects directly to the PC. Interesting.

But as Stilo says, have a copy on your MPC and another copy in the PC, and use the USB cable to backup your Projects to the PC frequently, and also to copy samples from the PC to the MPC.

I believe that wouldn't work anyway. You can't select "USB" or something in the Load/Save screen...or can you?

External hard drives are so cheap these days.
