VOCALS?

What are some things u do to vocals when ur mixing?
Ive got a decent mic but when every i think im done mixing it doesnt sound like its supposed to..what are somethings i could to make the beat loud enuff where it stands out but at the same time the vocals are lound enuff and it stands out and everything sounds together. Btw im rockin COOL EDIT PRO and AUDACITY

try decreasing the volume of the other tracks instead of increasing the volume of the vocal track(s)...

U gotta learn to mix man.. its no quick thing that some one can tell u and u can do it.. it will take u a long time to get down properly.

Its not just about levels either.. its about creating space for each element to sit in its own space and allowing certain parts (the right frequencys) of each element to come through in the mix and give each element pressence in the right area (not to sure how to word it right).

U gonna have to get ur head down and really study.. eq is one of the main things u gonna have to learn and learn properly.

Yeah what he said. It takes years to be able to get down an awesome mix in one go, why do you think the pros charge so much! Just practise and experiment with things and you'll get it.

Yeah..what they said....and....experiment with some FX......a little reverb, chorus, perhaps delay, maybe a flanger etc.....mo one mixes vocals "dry" that I'm aware of.....

it would sound like shiitt if it was dry lol

Yep, and it's done. I give as much as the rapper gives. They want it like that, then that's the work they get from me, quick dirty, ugly, dry as a skull in the desert vocals. I don't care if they don't care to care.

Secrets to mixing.

99% of your sound problems. Will be the kick drum.

get a 4 band eq out and start cutting. Dip the extreme low out. And then cut the mids out.

Once you have your kick. bring in your snare. Not to loud. Cut some bass if its bassey. boost some treble etc.

As for vocals. find a nice tiled room in your house. listen to how the vocals sound in the room.

A lot of it is in setting your monitor mix right. So its comfortable to do your stuff to.

place the mic about 8-12 inchs from mouth(if its condenser).

Then track vocals. If you are new to mixing. Then bring the vocals in first.

Use a compressor. Drag the threshold down. and then boost the gain. The ratio sets how much compression there is.


Then try cutting the bass out the vocals. Then use some reverb. Also try doubling them up and detuning them etc.


Also try ringing up phil tan and offering him $1000,000 to mix your record!
