Will hooking the Motif Rack into the MPC's direct record outlets allow me to track my motif sounds into Pro tools? I'm using an MBox2.

Nah man. Doing that will only allow you to sample the sound coming from the motif into the MPC. This is what you should do:

1. Plug the stereo outs of the MPC into Input 1 on the MBOX, the plug your outputs from the Motif into Input 2.

2. Open a new Pro Tools session and create two new audio tracks

3. On track one, make the input be Mic/Line 1

4. On track two, make the input be Mic/Line 2

5. Arm both tracks, that is, click the R on both tracks in ProTools.

Now you should be all set to track your sequence from the MPC into ProTools. Let us know.

peace,

Nope. Still didn't work. I'm really stumped on this one! It's strange because the MPC tracks fine. But the motif rack doesn't get a signal at all. Is there some small step I'm forgetting?

What is sending MIDI notes to play sounds in the Motif Rack? The MPC?

Is the Motif Rack playing back any sounds? If so, how are you listening to them?

If you can plug an MPC output into the MBOX and you get sound into the computer, you should be able to simply unplug the MPC output and plug the Motif output into the Mbox instead, and you should get sounds into the computer.

You need to plug the main audio outputs on the Motif Rack to the inputs of the MBox. And, you need to make sure that the Motif Rack is playing back sounds so that the MBox/computer can record them.

Are you pressing play on the MPC, or whatever MIDI sequencer you are using with the Motif Rack, when you are trying to record the Motif sounds into the MPC?

I hear the sounds while making my beat just fine. Everything runs through my mixer. It's just I can't track the sounds in Pro Tools. I've tried hooking the main outs of the rack to the Line in on the MBox2 and still get no signal. Is there anything else I could do?

Have you created new audio tracks in Protools, assigned the Protools track inputs to input 1 and 2, pressed the record enable button on those tracks in Protools, then set the gain for that input to give you a good level into Protools?

If using unbalanced cables (normal guitar cables, tip/sleeve) you should plug into the DI inputs and select the DI input on the front of the MBox2.

If using balanced cables (tip/ring/sleeve) you should plug into the Line inputs and select the Mic input on the front of the MBox2.

Have you tried pressing record on the Protools transport to see if any signal shows up when you record?

Have you checked on headphones plugged into the Motif-Rack, while it's outputs are plugged into the MBox2, to make sure the Motif-Rack is sending signal into the MBox2 when you are trying to record?

your problem is that you have to enable input thru on the MPC 1000, hit mode ,then pad 8 (mixer), after that hit F5 which is the input tab then make sure input thru at the top left is set to ON, and youre all set, just make sure your cable are running into the mmox correctly and the correct line input is selected on the track you have record enabled..

That's how I have my motif rack set up so that I could save the extra two inputs on the 828mkii. Just hook up the audio out from the motif to the record in on the MPC, then make sure that input through is on and set the output to whatever input you have waiting on the protools side.
