what guy's i need to get a OS for a 2000 classic.

it has the boot up disk but it reads disk read error when i pop it in ,
i didnt mess with this on my XL so i'm not sure how the CLASSIC works,
does any one know where i can download a FACTORY OS?

do you guy's think if i copied my OS from my XL and install it on the CLASSIC would that work?

and if i get another OS am i able to install it so i dont need to use the disk when i turn it on ,or am i goin to have to use that disk everytime?

i did a search but i couldnt find anything but new updates. but no downloads, can i install a new OS on this machine? or will i still need the old OS to upgrade with a new OS.?

thanks fellas .i didnt have to do this with my XL 7 yrs back. i'm doin this for a friend.

thanks FAM for any help.
peace

On my joint all of the lights will stay on until the OS is finished loading. I imagine they all work this way.

If you are still getting "DISK READ ERROR", try again with another disk, but it might be the drive itself. When I first got my 2K, I was able to boot from a Jaz drive but not from the floppy. I ended up having to replace the floppy with an old drive I had laying around in my surplus. It works fine now, even though I never use it.

Peace,
KM

i will have to try that and see what happens ,hopefully it's not the drive cause i dont think it will get fixed then i may have to offer some omney for it then.

omney for it then.
Nothing like some good omney to make they day go by smoothly, lol.

Really doe, the only 2 files that should be on the disk are
.SYS and .BIN, no folders, no other files. I think it can be that, the disk itself, bad OS download, mpc problems, drive problem (it's a standard regular ole pc floppy drive).

1.72 is an actual mpc2k classic os. The last and latest one.

http://www.forat.com/Downloads/MPC2000E.zip

What I posted earlier was the changes and fixes that took affect inside of 1.72 ya dig.

Just place the .EXE and .SYS on a clean blank disk to make a startup disk.

The 1.72 upgrade notice is in there as well.

My bad earlier, I said .BIN, that was wrong.

OK i downloaded and put it on a disk but it still reads disk error...so i i checked in side and man this is not like the 3kxl you literally have to take everything apart HUH?
well i think it could be the disk drive it self. cause the disk is new .

can i put in a 100mb zipin the place of yhe floppy?

If you're good at soldering yes otherwise forget about it, you'll **** up the machine, better try to score an external SCSI zip or even better a SCSI cardreader.
