Help A Young Digger Please

yo it really doesn't matter on what you pick up you can sample just about anything and make some sort of beat def. be different and try everything!! you might just find a hidden gem!!

well i wouldnt consider that cheating, cause really its not like thats the only song the artist ever made. I look on the breaks website sometimes too just to see names, and i might get a record or two based on seeing the name in the genre Im looking for, and word of mouth, blogs, ppl research, its just way too rare to "accidently" pick up a record without any knowledge of what it will sound like and you get a gem.


but still just randomly grab records from artist you don't know. cause those are the hidden gems. using what already has been used is a good way for solid "i know what im gonna get"

The easy way is to find some cats in your area that dig and try to get under their wing, become an apprentise to a master.... don't push it tho cos some of the cats out there are hard to trot when it comes to diggin, ease ya way in and learn from them, over time you'll catch on and become part of the diggin culture yourself.

i've taught of few peeps over time and they are pure hardcore diggers in their own rights now

Do you! You can sample anything. Once you chop it up it wont sound anything like the original record anyway so have fun with it! And the more you start listening to others production the more you'll use similar techniques and samples in your own production. If your going to listen to anything listen to your favorite ARTISTS and attempt to make something you would think they could rock on! Once you get your energy right you'll get your swagger right. Its all about the energy!
