Cant get files loaded into 2000 from a zip linked via scuzzy

I have a 2000 oldie hooked to external zip with sound files that the 2000 wont read when I go to the file load window. It only read the floppy drive. When the 2000 boots up it does see the zip. How can I load in sound files? Also can I update this 2000 to read from a harddrive?

Did you select proper scsi ID when looking for the connected zip drive ?
Also, did you terminate the zip drive ?

I didn't terminate the zip, not to my knowledge, and I didn't see a selection choice for a scsi device. On boot up it said scsi 7. Thanks for your reply.

I'm not sure if you know this, so I'll write it just in case.
When you connect a scsi zip drive (or any other media device for that matter), you need to assign a unique scsi ID to it. So when you connect your zip drive, you have to choose (between scsi 5 and 6 as far as I know) on the back of the unit. Also, try reading disk with termination set to ON/OFF.
Then search for this scsi ID on the mpc's screen, scroll until u see the number you assigned the drive to. It should work, you will probably notice cause the disk in the drive should respond.

I think part of my problem is I can't fins a manuel for an mpc 2000 and I'm reading off of a mpc 2000 xl manuel. At any rate I dont see where or how to assign a scsi number to the zip nor does it show up on my device menu when I press Shift-3, it only shows Floppy. There is nowhere on the back of the mpc unit to assign a scsi ID. searching how to try and read the zip with termination off. Haven't seen it in the manuel.

Here I meant the back of zip drive, there should be SCS ID switch and Termination ON/OFF switch.

Too bad! Your zip drive is not a scsi drive. I must urge you to not use it with your MPC you might blow its scsi fuse.

ok thankz, I'll look for a scsi hard drive or cd rom. Thanks for all your time and help. Maybe that explains when I try to search for this device it freezes up with an "wait..." message. Any drive suggestions?

Any tip on how I can upgrade the floppy to an internal harddrive on my oldie mpc 2000, will an internal HD even fit?

If you're not ready to do serious (MAJOR) soldering and hard ware mods inside your 2K then there is no way to install anything internal, except the floppy drive of course. For all other storage options you will need to use SCSI.

There are external hard drives for mpc on ebay, quite cheap in my opinion. If you live in the States of course
