Just switching to the JJ OS doesn't help improve the situation. Akai made their money already when you bought the machine - they don't care, unless you make them believe that you are pissed and they will loose customers.

I'm also curious about what hard drive people who get the freeze are using.
I spoke to Akai tech support, and they told me that the MPC2500 could be very "picky" on what hard drive it would work with. He recommended to always use one of the drives listed on their support page.
I've have had 3 MPC2500 in my studio for the last year and a half, 1 of them have been running almost 24/7. I've yet to run into any bugs of any kind at all.
I might have been lucky, but I also tend to think that a lot of trouble is usually caused by the user him/herself, and the ones who speaks out LOUDEST is usually the user with least experience and/or knowledge who likes to blame his/her own incompetance on the equipment.
(No offence directed at anyone in this forum in particular, just speaking in general terms)

Yeah I see what you're saying, my first thought was that my hard-disk was faulty!! It does seem however that the JJ OS has fixed the problem for most users, so at best the AKAI OS is a victim of lazy coding causing the fussyness!

For the record my HD was not listed on the Akai site but is a new revision of one of the drives that is, seen as I couldn't actually find anywhere to buy any of the drives listed in the UK... all too old now!

i've never heard of a case when user error is solved by a software update to shoddy code

well, i uploaded a new OS on my mpc about 2 weeks ago. so far no freezing folders.

Well, if you ever get a freezing folder...just do a quick search in the forums and you will find dozens of threads on the issue....I presented valuable info in many of them as well as other forum members. If you pay attention, your MPC will never freeze again.

Akai can suck my dyck!
