man it sucks not having money! it's like im never going to get my mpc ,turntable and mixer! , just wonderin how long it took yall to get ur main equipment, when you first started out. How old were yall when yall started out, im 16, and i think thats kind of late, and how long did it take you all to get like pro level ... just wondering

it took me bout 8ths of hard work last summer

man its not too late. i started trying to write beats when I was 16 too. But it was an all software thing for me. i aint on a pro level and wont be for a while but im able to purchase a thing or two every 2 weeks. man u either gotta work or pimp something. but it definately aint 2 late.

man writin music takes time dont rush the shit. take ur time to learn it. u gon get there. if u really serious bout it.

Aye man, age don't got nothin 2 do wit it.... it ain't about da age, it's about da hustle... u know, i never thought i'd have what i have, but i do, and i'm only 17, copped a motif 8 when i was fourteen from ma pops, since then it's been about the hustle... copped a custom built PC, copped a Digi 001, a MPC2000xl, a good ass Shure Condenser Mic.... Age isn't a weakness, unless u make it one....

Anyway it took me a while to really get to a good level because i didn't have real music around me... it took a while till i could go to different studios and listen to what they were doin what there music to find out what music is supposed 2 sound like....

I started writing music on my own at 15.....I used a friends dr 220, then I got my own tr 505 when I was 16.......I am 30 now one day I just decided to spend my money and buy some good equipment.......I use the 2kxl and the roland xp-80, although I have had plenty other keyboards I kept the xp-80 because a well known Dj here in Philly showed me the way to create new sounds with the same board..........Love what you do and you will be sucessful

There is no short cut. Learning all of this shit takes time. I remember lookin at a guitar center catalog some years back and being like WTF is all of this shit. Now I know everything in there and If I dont I will hunt down the information on it because Im hungry for info and know what kind of stuff is out there. Im 20 now and been makin beets for four years so If you start now you can be on my level when your 20. Just some random Info

I know how you feel about the money, but I finally got a job. Besides that I've been wanting to make beats since I was 12. I never had any type of equipment until 2001 when I got a Boss DR-5. It got boring and tired...now I'm planning on getting a MPC 1K. I remember making beats on an old Casio keyboard and a tape recorder. Talk about hard work making a beat .

Man just stay focused and determind on getting your gear. When I was 16 I was worried about buying clothes, instead of investing it into some gear. And I'm 22 by the way .

oh yeah i cant write music worth shit..... i really can't read it that well either.... I've been playing drums for four years...

well not necessarily writing music notes but writing beats period (making beats).

Knowing how to read/write notes is highly overrated, I think. Since I stopped taking saxopone lessons, I've not used notes one single time. Now I don't even remember how to do it anymore.

Money issues suck, but you don't need a lot of hardware to start making music. Hell, if you've got a computer, buying an issue of future music will set you back 5 bucks or something, and with it comes a cut-down version of the sequencer muzys + a bunch of software instruments and effects.

Yo, Ive been makin beats for 5 years now i think. I started with a bossDR5 (got for free), then jumped on the 2000 about a year after that. I already had a old turntable, all I needed was wax. Only other real investment i made was my 8 track recorder, which i really dont use to make beats, just to flow on. You will get your ish, man. But I know when you do, you will be hungrey enough to use it to its advantage. Just take this time before you get your mpc, to read up on this site. Jot down any useful tips you learn, and youll be ahead of the game. Oh yeah I just turned 23 on april 5, so Im a young dude too!
