I think this is the question of the month?? maybe longer. try a search, its been asked sooooo many times, yet I personally haven't read a great response to the ? yet. Thankfully i haven't HAD to know yet since I still don't have my MPC, but I'd love to hear a solid answer for the hundreds of us asking

I don't know if this is the "right" way, but this is the way I have mines set up is:

MIDI out on Fantom -> MIDI in on MPC
MIDI out on MPC -> MIDI in on Fantom
All audio (2 channels from Fantom & 6 channels from MPC) go into the audio interface (MOTU 828mkII)

Fantom MIDI settings:
Device ID: 17
Performance Control Channel: 16
Kbd Patch Rx/Tx Channel: 1
Pad Patch Rx/Tx Channel: 10
All Transmit & Receive options set to "OFF"

MPC MIDI settings:
Active track receive channel: ALL
Soft thru: OMNI-C (for my Motif Rack ES...has nothing to do with the Fantom)
Sequence change by program change: ON
Pad to internal sound: ON
Sync in: Slave
Mode: MIDI TIME CODE
Receive MMC: ON
Sync out: OFF (When I'm making the beat)
Sync out: Master (ONLY WHEN I'M TRACKING THE BEAT TO NUENDO, NOT WHEN I'M CREATING THE BEAT)
Mode: MIDI TIME CODE
Frame rate: 25
Send MMC: ON

When recording, set Type to MIDI, Pgm to OFF, & Midi to whatever channel you have selected in the Fantom (in performance mode, of course).

Like I said, this sh*t works for me. I don't know if this is "right", but what the f*ck! I don't even fully grasp what a lot of this sh*t even means anyway! lol

If you guys see anything that looks wrong, let me know!!! jay357, let me know if you use these settings and if they worked for you. At first I tried setting everything up how I thought it should logically work, then I started doing trial and error...finally I arrived here. Good luck!!!

I left there in 1984 and joined the Marine Corps. I just retired 23yrs.. i'm in fredericksburg Va. Trying to get it started. My Godmother lives on E225 st gun hill rd. What type of production are you into. and does the fantom MPC connection works for you.

Kinda weird...those two streets don't intersect. I actually lived on Gun Hill Rd a few years back too!

I do Hip Hop and a little R&B...sample-based and original tracks. I rap too, and engineer my own sh*t! Yeah, that connection works fine for me, but...

I don't use the Fantom as the main sequencer. I know it's hard to use anything but THE best workstation sequencer out there right now, but I got into the MPC sequencer to minimalize my options...kinda dumbing down so that I could only focus on the music (sometimes all of those quick and easy options for editing kinda automates a lot of the creative process making it boring and bland for me).

I've never tried to use the MPC sequencing in the Fantom though...sorry!
