tired breaks...

...or not so tired,
what do people think about reusing samples...
i dont mean like the most famous breaks but I keep finding the loops that producers have used on the weirdest records that i pick up from charity shops etc.
I mean i found the hook from cannibal ox iron galaxy,
loads of uk stuff that lewis parker braintax etc have used.

Yes, use the breaks, but just flip them in a different style. Its real good fun also to see if you can get a compleatly different sounding track out of a used break.
All those UK easy lisening LP carry heat, If their not to expensive (50p)and I havnt got it already I always snap them up.

Break can refer to music is general.. Thus, "drum break."

jay dee ripped the whole track for certified on gurus latest effort from a music for pleasure LP - the same 12 had a fat break on it as well - all MFP stuff is usually very cheap and you can jack good drum kits from em using recycle or similar.

finding the right break is only half of it.

jay dee then made the sample sound like it was played live using a filter. add bilals crooning and the monotone guru and you have a track from nuthin'!

dig em up - filter em - chop em. whatever. just keep it fresh.

check the sample faq for who jacked em already - helps if you want a particular sound.

My thing is that with sooooooo many records out there why would you want to use a loop someone has already used? Get off thier coattails. I definitely understand re-using and re-working classic samples and loops for nastalgia purposes, but why would you want to use something CanOx or any of the newer cats are using. Give their shit some room to breathe. I love re-chopping old James Brown loops and all that just to see if I can get different sounds from classic loops, but I never straight copy anybody that I would consider a contemporary.

It's really a thin line that everybody has to decide for themselves what's appropriate to sample or not. This is just my take on it.

I agree with Count. Why cop a loop that's already been used..unless you do it for nastalgic purposes. You can freak the loop in infinite ways where it sounds totally different using the skills you have on the MP. I come across loops that other cats have used, and made a beat that sounds totally different. It's challenging, but rewarding as well. Loops are cool to use when no one has used them yet. That's part of the art of diggin' as well...findin' that one loop that's no one has used...

this does not take away any cred. or talent away from dilla.....did it sound dope?.....if the answer is yes his job is done....besides i can name 20 dilla songs that had no "tired breaks" in it and some that added some str8 flavor to this game......imma start with drop from the pharcyde...and i will continue on request.....dilla is one the the best banging on mpc's and sp's banging out **** we like to hear that has some fame

i didnt actually use any of the stuff i listed, i like just having the breaks (or loops, or hooks or whatever anyone wants to call them.
