Some of my problems were the MTC not functioning correctly, the file corruption and the Detect Tempo not working because it's looking at peaks not time.
JJ's free took care of those so I leaned that way thinking Akai would get things taken care of.
Months later when JJ released the paid version is was pretty obvious that Akai wasn't gonna deliver so I just moved on.
Too make things worst communicating with Akai has be come a true crap shoot with little chance of success.
I would hate to have a broken MPC and need their assistance, that would be the real suffering.
Who knows maybe Akai has some real tricks up their sleeve?

Survival of the fittest. Akai's days are numbered unless they start switching their product line to focus more on usb/midi controllers and it looks like they already have.

how about some innovation? new style controllers. open source samplers. imagine what the mpc series could become if these newest boxes were all open source. look what has happened when the code gets placed into the hands of just 1(or 2) capable programmer(s).

Most of the significant features added to the latest MPCs were already possible with older MPCs like the 4000 and 2000XL. Some of you talk as if Akai is the only solution. Take a look at Tascam, Roland, Korg, and Yamaha..for products that can be used in conjunction with the MPC.

What puzzles me is why some would still use Akai products when they are not happy with them. If you are on a budget, I would go with an MV-8000 since they are really cheap these days.

You caught that too?
I had to stop myself on 2 different occassions from picking one up.
Seems people are dumping them pretty cheap thinking the new 8800 has killed the value.
I have seen them as cheap as $700 with VGA
That's a whole lotta box for $700.

Back to the Akai thing, they still have a pretty strong following all things considered.

Akai will most likely continue to have a strong following....but for all the kids that just started using MPCs within the past few years and want to do everything in one box..the MV is a much better option. I think most of you would benefit from using one of those instead.

Do you think a new Akai 2500 OS will be on par with the JJ? I've been using the JJ and don't see Akai "catching up" with what the JJ has to offer. Or perhaps Akai was working on an update the whole time that will blow JJ out of the water.

New style controllers? The reality is people want drum pads, keyboards and mixers.
Samplers are dead. If there was still a market, EMU would still own it. Akai would be selling Z8's, Ensoniq would be making ASR's. That market died. If you need a sampler, buy one, the used market is full of really nice ones. The software samplers like Kontakt and Giga eat those for lunch.

Open source samplers? That would be a nail in their coffin.
Open source doesn't make anyone any cash, it just gives away technology to other companies for free. How much open source gear are the biggest companies Roland, Yamaha and Korg making? There is a reason they don't make any.

So a machine that gives away their technology and is a sampler that nobody will buy? There's a good idea.javascript:emoticon('')

Here's a third party software idea, how come nobody has made a REX to Chopshop converter. This is something that some software guy should be able to whip out in a week and charge $50 for.
Something that would take a bunch of samples in a folder on my computer and auto make a program out of them would be good too. A programmer guy who doesn't get laid should be able to do this easy and be able to buy more online porn or video games off the cash.

I'm looking forward to the MPK49 if the keyboard feels better than the other crap out there.
My MPC's work well and do what I need them to do. People been making killer tracks on MPC60s and 3000's for years, they can't do what the 2500 can, have a lot less memory, and you have to have scsi cables and crap hanging off the things. If you can't make good music it's your fault, not the gear. People just like to **** and whine too much. My 2500 and 500 work fine. My computer crashes with Live, Logic, Pro Tools all the time and the bug fixes are usually burried in new versions which they charge $99 - $199 dollars for. This adds features but then adds a bunch of new bugs. Half the time Digi requires you to buy new hardware or a faster computer.
I'll take a free update that fixes a bug or two.

Finally....someone that makes a logical point.

Its not reasonable to say its OK to have bugs in hardware like software. And yes I know that hardware gear is just dedicated computers which run software. If there was ever a justification for buying a piece of gear, it would be that it didn't have a continual upgrade cycle and the whole 'we'll fix it in the next update' mentality. Only a few years ago digital synths had to have the code right because there were no downloadable updates and rom chip replacements were expensive to the manufacturer. Somehow they got the code right the first time.

Hardware buyers should expect rock solid reliability and I don't think comparing hardware to software makes sense. Some of the bugs in the MPC2500 official OS simply should not have existed in the first place. Like many here the bugs don't stop me making music - I'm not complaining that I can't make music because of bugs. On the contrary, the MPC2500 releases a whole world of creativity I didn't know I had. But destructive bugs like freezing on creating a folder are unacceptable and deserve concerned discussion.

Cheers,.
