Hi,

Was really excited about the mpc4000 until I read all the problems you guy's seem to be having with it, so I thought I'll just go for the 2500 and get
an 80 gig Hd & 128 RAM - till I read that the 2500 is n't totally stable either.

I do like the sound of the Aksys software to go with my Mac though

If they re both equally unstable looks like 4000 is best-but maybe there's more hardware back up for the 2500 as they're still making it- Help....

Pls help if u can

many thanks

If i wer u i wud go for tha mpc4000 than the 2500. I say this because even if the mpc4000 has faults (so does the 2500) the mpc4000 offers SO MUCH MORE than tha 2500 plus the Aksys software is a really nice addition aswell. It also depends on which Os you are going to use aswell. There are always going to be problems with using any mpc but thats jus life and you eventually learn how to overcome most of the problems anyway. I would also like to say that you should consider if you are going to get full use out of the mpc4000 and all its functions etc.. or not. If not then the sensible option would be getting the 2500 because it is still an amazing machine which has lots of different options going for it.
Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for shedding some light krish

Just one thing that I just wanna know. is the quantising on these new machines as good as the old MPC's like the 2000xl or the 3000? - checked You Tube and they seem to be...

I have an SP1200 and am used to re patching the outputs every now & then
so if the 2500 & 4000 are more stable than that, with nice quantisation, and I can import my drums via USB then it'd be christmas.

Someone told me that OS 1.70 on the 4000 is good..

Thanks again!

I'm runnin 1.71
and never had a crash or whatsoever
the sequencer is as tight as any mpc
with the 4000 you only get a greater resolution (960 compared to 96), giving you the opertunity to do some more realistic programming (you can also record in 96 ppq on the 4000 if you like)

Thanks Grouphome,
thats exactly what I was after

4k is more of a all in one box...but it sonds like you got a computer already. pc/mac and 2500 would be equal and more than 4k itself. or 2500 and synth like tritorn, motif, or fantom combo would equal 4k.

been seeing used 4k for as low as 1700, but If I was you I'd hold off on dishing out the dough on one for little longer. there is speculations that a replacement is coming out sometime this year.

I'm using JJ's OS on my 2500 and havent ran into any serious problems with it that would stop me from making music. SYSTEM ERROR was a major bug that I ecountered on Akai OS and this was about a year ago.

Thanks konc3pt,

to be honest thats kinda where my heads at, & I'm
not sure I can wait too long...

+ I spose you could just about justify 2500 too 5000..

do like those extra quantise values that Grouphome told me about
on the 4000 though...

I really love the fact that it has a greater PPQ
I find it usefull to get more realistic performances out of it (without quantizing on)
excpecially when i'm doin piano stuff

if you can get you an mv-8000 all the power of the mpc 4000 with a couple extra features, and cheaper($1400 usd)that's what i payed 4 mine brand new
it comes with 125mb of memory expandable to a gig even though it says only
512mb.Comes with a 40gb hard drive,(expandable to 120gb) or get the mv-8800 it's ($2200 usd).Srill cheaper than the mpc 4000 and getting the hard drive for the 2500 will make it cost what the mv-8800 already cost.
a friend of mines has the 2500,it cant stand next to the mv.also roland frequently make os updates.I would get the mv-8000 not much differ in the
8800 except the color screen

Not quite, but close. I give all props to the MV but it's still a 16 bit, 44.1khz machine.

Yeah, I sometimes mixdown tracks within the MPC4000 itself, either from the stereo outs or an external mixer. It's just something about that Akai sound quality I like, the punchiness, and this is where it's good to be recording in 24bit.

I was contemplating getting a 4000,but also was a little nervious about the bugs.Anybody had any bad problems on it.It was a toss up between the 3000,2000xl,or 4000.So far I narrowed it down to xl and 3000 due to the bugs I'm hearing about on the 4000.

Sh!t, from what I'm reading here on the forum, the 4k seems to be the least buggiest of them all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's totally bug free but not to the extent of it putting you out of commission or something. We all know how some folks can be when it comes to them expecting things to perform like they're supposed to. In the real world this is'nt the case always. Take for example, of all the current model MPC's, the 4k is'nt supported by the JJ OS or anything for that matter (even though some feel it should). Could it be because it's difficult to write a new OS or something or maybe there's not enough complaints to justify updating the current OS (which is 1.71). Anyhow, maybe the 4k fell short of these folks' expectations, which we now have the "4k is riddled with bugs" scenario floating around to discourage those that may want to give this beast a try. In conclusion, I'd say if you can find a 4k to try, then do so, It'll change your whole perspective about what it's really made of.
