Thats ONE way to do business! definately not a respectable way, but I dont think they give a shit about respect, they've already proven that.

I doubt they'd do that. It would make no sense to retool those parts, make the pcb, and update the code if it were not going to go into production.
Even IF they sold them for $200, which is just a rumor, they'd never make their money back.
I'd bet the new 1000's will have the new pads.

what happened to that other thread?

this is disgusting and intolerable
those of you with broken pads, do what you have to do
but attempt to make this your last akai purchase.

this company does not respect its customer.

I say stick with Nyms pad fix. I am waiting for mine, its in production.
reasons:
1: choices of pad color (and extras are available to swap colors)
2: ease of parts availability
3: parts durability
4: ease of parts replacement
5: CHEAPER
6: Akai had their chance and if the 1000 price stays about the same then you bet the quality is too.

all good reasons, but as far as sheer performance specifications, Interlink Electronic FSRs with their own integrated pcb is going to be better than SR-D18-S sensors coupled with Akai's original PCB board. my fix was to optimize the current hardware - Akai's new fix essentially puts an overpriced MPD16 into your mpc1000. better hardware at a sickening price.

1- pad color is purely cosmetic, which is not as important as performance.
2- ease of parts available is true.
3- parts durability: SR-D18-S sensors are equivalent to IE FSR sensors.
4- parts replacement: true. probably unnecessary.
5- CHEAPER: true. but not by much.
6- Akai lost their chance: TRUE. any more money being paid by mpc1000 users to Akai is undeserved and downright highway robbery.

My track record with Akai....they have given me excellent support for my MPC 2000, 2000XL, 3000, and 2500. I didn't keep my 4000 long enough to have any serious complaints. So what I am seeing/reading here is that the folks that made their first Akai purchase on what was clearly the first affordable/semi-pro MPC. Its sad that your Akai experience is based off of a crappy built product that was designed over 5 years ago..but there are other alternatives today. You may not like the direction..but at least they are doing something for future MPC 1000 users. And now you have options....$180 for the JJ OS and the Nym pad fix or $200 for the Akai OS and the reported new Akai pads.

the only reason i can see going with akai is if it it works with the jj os. (that is if your a jj os user)...if not....nym all the way..its not worth giving up the features....regardless though..this shit is disgusting.

@nym are you really going to discontinue your pad fix when/if these akai pads release?

dont mean to disrespect first poster but this sounds bogus. i have serious doubts about Wakai "developing" new pads. With the amount of mpc1000 s out there and people disgruntled with pad issues, itll be more headache for them. no problem for me though my pads are solid except for one which neees to be pressed slighlty more. but it would be nice to have a set of pads that i knew i could bang harder.

if akai's pads are better than nym's, i'm going to sue nym for knowingly selling a poor quality product.
