fact is, they released
1- faulty technology
2- faulty operating systems.
i don't care how small their company is. that's no excuse for alienating their customer base.
other companies have done factory recalls for less.
Nym,
Firstly....wrong thread dude !

If you're gonna have a pop, do it in the right thread so people don't get even more confused than they are
No piece of hardware/software goes to market nowadays in 100% perfect state. The consumer now demands products a.s.a.p. and developers feel pressured into releasing way before they know something is complete, otherwise they risk losing market share. It's a sad and undeniable fact of consumerism today.
I have never made excuses for any legitimate fault that people might find with the 1K's. Fact is though, if the pads went during warranty, Akai would've fixed them, albeit with the same pads that many claim to be of poor design, but they would've fixed them. That's a legal obligation and I have no knowledge of Akai not honouring that obligation.
But you say the pads are faulty. I would disagree. I might agree they weren't the best quality or maybe up to the job, but they don't leave the factory faulty. And why is it so many more people
haven't complained about faulty pads than those who have ? I have an orginal MPC1K, early manufacture (probably initial runs) and my pads are fine bar one which has only recently started to cause concern. I can buy an Akai original replacement for about £6 + shipping. Hardly a rip off.
Do I detect a soupcon of resentment that Akai may now be able to provide a fix at half your cost ?
As for the "faulty" OS ? Ha ! If you only knew ! Again, OS's never leave the factory perfect. Sadly, due to the situation at the time, it would appear a decision was made to look ahead, rather than back.
And as for a recall ? Sure, let Akai spend millions (and yes, it would be millions) on a recall, fix your "problems" and then go completely bankrupt, never to produce another MPC again.
Look, the people you see here complaining about their "problems" are a minority. I know you'll never see it like that, but internet forums are only for people who want to complain. You don't hear a shed load of people on internet forums saying "Hey, I just popped on here to say how great I think "X" is" or "wow, just wanted to come on here and say that "Y" is so cool".
No.
These people are out there, getting on with life, using the "X's" or "Y's" for what they were built for and being creative with them.
God, we always end up debating the same old crap. All people will do is **** and moan, and they'll keep doing it all the while it makes them feel better about themselves and all the while it makes them feel like they're fighting "the righteous fight". Meanwhile, the vast majority of MPC1K users remain silent and productive.
I admire your work in creating a pad fix. Hats off to you for putting in the time and effort. However, I admire those who we don't hear from, more. Those who feel no need to spend more time complaining than time creating.
You know, I often thought that people like Jahrome talked a load of hot air, but I'm beginning to see many of his comments actually make sense. They may not be read in that way initially, but he often has a point. It's just that some people are so hell bent on being "anti Akai" and complaining all the time, when someone comes along and presents them with the bare faced truth, they rise up en masse and bludgeon them down.
Hey, I could be the new Jahrome !
