mpc2500. OS. 1.2 (May 10, 2006)
hit buttons: MODE>>MIXER

on this page when I adjust the fader levels or the pan....they don't seem to be very accurate. Say I'm fading the snare in from 0(bottom to top)...You won't hear the any signal until the fader gets to about midway up. This just seems funny....when comparing it to other faders on different gear.
also the pan knob doesn't seems to be dead on either.

Is this a bug or is it the way MPC's are?

.....I did a search, but didnt find anything. Forgive me if I missed it.

Thanks

No problem here. Did you have Full Level on when you tried it? I can hear a signal with any fader level if my monitors are loud enough. Listen closely.

I get full volume if the fader is all the way to the top. and no volume if the fade is all the way to the bottom. Which is pretty normal.

But if the fader is halfway (middle point between top and bottom) the audio should also play at half the volume like on other audio mixer. This is not the case on my MPC2500.
ex:
on my 2500...say I'm in the mixer screen adjusting track one's volume from 0 to 100...100 being full volume. When I start to move the fader from 0 I do hear a low sound, but when moving the fader upwards....I down hear a even increase in the volume. The volume stays pretty much the same level until the fader is about half way up. When it gets just past halfway....the volume will then start to get louder as I continue to increase the fader up to 100(full). I like I only get an even increase from about 50 to 100 when it should be an even increase from 0 to 100.

Just wondered if it was a bug or if this is how all the MPC's are...not just the 2500. I can still set the levels like I want by using my ears to listen.

I've noticed this also........... the volume faders are not in direct proportion with what should be heard

I know exactly what ur talking about, its like when the fader is halfway down, the volume of the sound is way lower than what it should be

its very different from what the faders used to be like on my 2000xl, they were pretty accurate from top to bottom

on the 2500 its like the most response is in the top 25% of the fader

I don't know if that's a problem. Sound perception is highly subjective...but I didn't notice it working any differently than on my mixer for example. Maybe the MPC faders are just progressive instead of linear.

I get what you are saying but when it comes to any faders (DAW or physical)....they all should be even(linear) for the lowest volume to the loudest volume. Well this is how faders work on expensive consoles like SSL's down to inexpensive Behringer mixers that I have used.

If your mpc2500 faders(& mix screen) is working just like mine...then it too, is not accurate. Nothing to do with sound perception. Either the fader is linear like it should be or it's not. I just didnt know if it was a bug or not.

You may be thinking about "fade-ins, fade-outs, X-fades" which can be adjusted to you liking.

this is exactly what I am saying. This is not how an accurate fader should work.

and on the Pan knob(pan display)....

sometimes when you first touch the volume fader........the pan knob(on screen) will turn a little to the left. The exactly sound does seem to change much. But yet the knob itself was not touched....LOL

Then when you do trying to re-adjust the pan...you have to play with it a tiny bit to get it back to center.

Are you using the Q-Links to adjust the levels and pan?

@nuk: what os are you using? i remember to had this problem at earlier versions but it seems to be gone with the current 1.22 os.

as the q-links all are touch sensitive they seem to use the first sense of movement to activate themself and begin the actual value change a little after that.

i currently have anoother problem with the q-links that is driving me mad: if i use a q-link say on pad 1 to control tune in realtime and then accidently or on purpose hit another pad at the same time this pad will also be affecte by the q-link event. i can get around this while producing by recording one track after the other, but since i also use my mpc in a live setting i sometimes need this function on the fly (and sometimes in conjunction with note repeat wich makes it even worse).
so if akai drops another os for the 2500 it´ll better make the q-links usable so the only affect the pad they should and while they´re at it they should make at least two q-links useable on one pad at the same time.

peace jo

That took you some time to answer...

ya man...I know its been a hot minute.

But I'm using OS 1.22 also.

I dont really using my MPC that much. I mainly bought it for my folks that ask about an MPC. I'm stuck on the MOTIF ES. I'm about to look at the new MOTIF XS. If I like it, I will upgrade. I also have an ASR-10 in great shape and Sampletank XL 2.

Hell I bought the MPC 2500 eBook tutorial and only 3 pages in a few months...LOL I know I know.

Just not enough time in a day mannn.

one other bug I noticed is that somtimes the pads are crazy. Say I have different sound on each pad. I hit any ONE pad and it will play all the sounds the are loaded. All at the same time. WTF?
It doesnt happen too much...and then again. I dont use it but once a week or so.

thanks

yeah, the faders affect the volume logarithmically rather than linearly. it's annoying. back when i first got it and i tried to load my mpc2000xl programs, all of the volumes seemed messed up.

i'm not sure why they set it up that way, but it's harder to get your mix sounding right because of it.
