I just upgraded to 4.66. Pitch Stick on my Nord Modular G2 (G2's midi out goes to MPC's midi in) sends some cc which keeps pitch shifting drums inside AKAI. That wasn't the case with the previous OS i used (it was 4.44). How can i turn off this "feature"?
I just want to use Pitch stick for my internal effects inside G2, not to pitchshift AKAI.

The controller is called "pitch bend" ;)

Try to reset MPC (hold "Erase" button and turn on, after 20 seconds release "Erase" button).

nothing changed after reseting.

Pitch bend receive is one of the more recently implemented features in the sampler section. Does it affect all voices, or only the selected track? I haven't really been able to try it just yet.

See if you can disable the midi pitch bend output from the Nord. Why is it sending it in the first place? Are you moving the pitch bend control or is there some funky pitch bend module sending it automatically?

If for some reason you can't disable it, external midi filtering may be the only option short of downgrading... but I would hope there would be some kind of basic midi filter section on a NM.

BTW Pitch bend is technically not part of the midi cc class, it's a parameter unto itself like aftertouch. It's important to know this because if you are only looking at midi cc controls, you won't find it.

does the sampler receives pitch bend now ?
i did not realize that...

In that case change the MIDI settings for the track (so it doesn't receive on the Nord MIDI channel - change it's type to "drum"). Then *maybe* Nord keys/pitch bend/knobs won't affect the MPC track anymore...

I think it would be a good idea to have MIDI filtering in MPC1000, like in *most* advanced sequencers out there.

Something like this (from Yamaha RS7000):

Yes, it does.

No, It can't be disabled on Nord.

I have some internal effects in Nord which I control with the Pitch stick.

True. That's why I can't disable it on Nord. Only midi ccs can be filtered out.

Great idea. And Iam going back to 4.44 in the meantime. :-(

Pitch bend receive has been here since 4.50. It seems if you want to use a track as a MIDI track, there is no way to turn off bend. Hmmm, as an alternative, would a "drum" track respond to notes etc. , but not to pitch bend over MIDI?

Or is there a "pitch bend range" in the MPC1000 (don't have it here) ?????
that would solve the problem, assuming it could be turned to "0". Hmmmm, most synths do have a pb range parameter (in semitones)...

I had heard the effect was applied to all voices, but like I said I hadn't tried it yet -- but now that it's confirmed, I'd have to say that what we actually have here is a bug, because first of all it doesn't make any sense to do it that way (especially if you can't switch it) and second:

The key term being "active track". According to this, the effect should work in the same manner as midi note input.

That's too bad that the nord doesn't have more extensive midi filters. Sorta surprising actually. I wouldn't really expect the JJ os to have it since it's already bulging at the seams. This isn't an issue for me personally since I run a patch bay w/filtering between all my midi gear, but if I did want to use pitch bend, that feature would still need to be fixed in the JJ.

I would definitely report that one. It has to be a bug.

I haven't tried it out yet, but if ALL tracks (SET TO DIFFERENT MIDI CHANNELS!) respond to pitch bend (not just the selected one), it's definitely a bug. Bend should be limited either to the selected track or the tracks that are: 1.) set to MIDI (not drum) and 2.) set to the same MIDI channel as the keyboard that's sending the pitch bend messages...

You can report BUGs in *very plain* english here:

I'm not sure if pitch bend is applied to all tracks (I usually use only one drum track). In my case it is applied to all pads on the selected drum track. And for me it's still unexceptable.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

did you actually try to untick "cc send" pm the Nord ? i reckon it would disable sending the pitch bend.

anyway, i just tried pitch bend yesterday, and there is no bug there. you select a track, and pitch bend affect only the selected track. thats exactly how it works for midi notes, so it is the way it should work for pitch bend.

when it comes to external events, mpc is not really about midi channels, but about selected track.

so just dont have a drum track selected when you play your nord lead. (same as if you press key on your nord and you have a drum track selected, then the nord lead will also play the drum program, and thats not a bug).

so really no bug in there. but a great feature. thx JJ :)
(and it sounds wicked)

It won't, because like I said, midi pitch bend is not a midi continuous controller. Look at the two types of messages on a midi monitor or one of those charts that shows the hexadecimal codes. The two messages start with a completely different prefix.

Glad we got that active track thing sorted -- I was a little worried and like I said I've been lame and still haven't tried it.

A few people on here have had the same problem with just plain old note response and the lack of midi filtering. I pretty much always have the same answer -- old MTPs are cheap! Filtering just puts more load on the MPC processor anyway, I always feel it's best to not send the messages in there to begin with.

yes you are right, cc's and pitch bend are different midi messages. this is the theory.

in practice, the programmers might have included pitch bend with the option of filtering cc.

anyway it won't hurt to try and see. :)

Sure it was the first I tried. It still sends pitch data.

so just dont have a drum track selected when you play your nord lead. (same as if you press key on your nord and you have a drum track selected, then the nord lead will also play the drum program, and thats not a bug).

The problem is that at the same time with pitch bend im sending notes on/off, velocity, etc from my Nord to MPC. I use MPC as a sample storage and sequence everything inside Nord. So i have to select the drum track. As it was mentioned before midi filter inside MPC for every track could solve this problem.
BTW My Nord is Modular not Lead. :-)
