I want to accomplish x, what piece of equipment do I need?

I have several drum sequences recorded and would like to record the keyboard line without having to record the whole performance as a sample. I also would like to avoid recording each note and then assign to pads as I would like to use the sustain pedal on the Yamaha keyboard and yes I'm aware I can use that pedal on the MPC. I would just like to record the keyboard performance while listening to the drum part I have already recorded. Suggestions?

Also, how can I use the 16 level feature without having the differences of length in tones between the top and bottom levels? Like I don't want the bottom tones stretched out and the top notes real short, stacatto like.

if im correct of what u are asking, i believe it can be done with the "Direct Recording" function of the 2500, not sure though, but check it out. maybe a JJos update can get it done

Are you connected via MIDI?
Cause you should be able to record the Keys on a MIDI track.
You will need a mixer to hear both the keys and the MP, is that what you're asking about?
Check the manual, it should be covered in there somewhere.

I am connected via MIDI but was under the belief that MIDI just transmits data and not the actual sound. Isn't there a bank of pre-determined sounds that a MIDI controller, my keyboard in this situation, can control and tell the host to play? I want to record the actual keyboard sounds while the MPC plays the drum track ive already recorded. Does that requirer a mixer or can this be accomplished with the MPC without having to sample every note?

Ok, Mind control said something about "Direct Record" on the 2500, I guess that's what you'd need.
I think you can do that kinda thing on a 500 aswell, not to sure about the 1000.
He also suggested that the "JJ OS" might give that feature on a 1000, but wasn't sure.
Check into that OS, and see if it gives you this feature.
