anyone use both a 500 & a 2500?

Sounds like crazy gear-lust...but I'm away from home at least two days and nights a week... lots of train journeys etc...

It's frustrating because lots of my good ideas come while I'm traveling, I'd love to have a sketch pad to work on something and then take it back to the studio.

My question is really how compatible the 500 is with the 2500. I know that there are fewer pads (so maybe pgm is different/changed?) and that it only has a lowpass filter and possibly fewer effects...
Noe of this worries me... Does anyone have any experience of using both, using the CF Card to transfer wavs, sequenes and pgms without too much trouble?

If I transfer a pgm from the 2500 will the 500 simply ignore settings it can't use, or does it all crash?

Presumably the fact that I use the JJ OS won't affect things?

There is a little conflict between the 2500 and 500.

I noticed that when I load info(programs/sequences)from the 2500 to the 500 and these programs/sequences use parameters that the 500 does not have(i.e. highpass filter,mixer adjustments, sounds routed to 8 outputs.....etc) I would get error messages, freeze upon playing sequences, and samples not playing correctly or at all.

There is definitely less conflict when going from the 500 to the 2500 that's for sure, in fact the only thing I really noticed is that any data loaded from the 500 to the 2500 the track names change from 'unused' to 'Track 1', 'Track 2'...etc. There may be other minor areas of conflict like overall volume of samples being lower when loaded to the 2500. anyway.....

oh and programs loaded from the 2500 to the 500 will not include the last 16 samples(bank D)

I suppose these conflicts are to be expected.

I just hoped that the 500 could act as a useful 'continuation' of a project when on the move, and a sketchpad while away from the 2500... it sounds as if this might prove frustrating? I would be forced to 'limit' what I was dfoing on the 2500 if I thought I was going to switch a project onto the 500 at any time!

This is exactly the case,...and to keep from limiting yourself the combo is best used when transferring data from the 500 to the 2500.

I don't use the JJ OS and don't trust it will be compatible in the future from what people are saying so I cna't comment on that.

I use them both but I usually just go from the 500 to the 2500 so I don't ever have any problems. The 2500 can do mix automation, more filters and other stuff but the 500 is dope for sitting on a plane or in a doctors office or something like that. I took mine on vacation so I could make music while kicking back. I do wish there could be an internal drive but I'm not complaining. A 1 gig CF card holds a lot of waves.
