LP's - 45's - 33 1/3's - Share ya thoughts...I'm confused...

Ok I understand sample any and everything you can get your hands on...but for some reason I dislike any vinyl that is not in it's original cover and I hate 45's and 33 1/3's maybe because they are smaller and most of the time it seems like they never have sleeves....

Should I try and get rid of that hate, I mean people that favor 45's and 33's whats the reason for it....better music? Mainly singles? Carry more value for resale?? Older???

Share your thoughts on it because I always find myself treating them like a red headed step child...and when It comes to LP's I hunt and care for them things like theres no tomorrow...and I can not figure out why so Im trying to soak up some knowledge and put some logic to these thoughts...

I cant figure out why I do this so maybe some of you can chime in....or share your thoughts and feelings on different records, sizes etc.

45's are actually a lil better for sampling because the grooves aren't spaced as close together as they are on an LP.


Pressings are generally louder too, plus so many obscure bands only put out 1 or 2 singles and then faded into obscurity or cruise ship jobs!

Yeah LP's are good too.


You get those little cuts that no-one else likes on an album that always seem to have something in 'em.



Plus it feels better holding an armful of albums than a wee stack of 45s!

ah i really like 45's... send all ur 45's to me i'll give them a good home lol

Man check ur 45's theres probably some real dope breaks on them.. plus they alot faster to check through, can get alot of real dope breaks on them that aint on lp's as much or ones that have been edited on the album versions etc etc

I used to stick to 12" before i knew so much what i was lookin for but now i love diggin for 45's.. theres somin about them.

And even if the record sounds wack, listen right through each side otherwise u'll miss sh!t, 1 inparticular of mine is pure wackness untill about 30 seconds from end then its got a dope as f**k bit (before turnin wack again to end the track lol).. shit wouldnt even need to be chopped just too dope as it is.. anyone inpatient would miss it tho.. if ur that inpatient then just speed up the record and listen to it play real fast u should still catch the dope bits whatever speed (unless ur spinnin it stupidly fast with ur hand or some shit).

think of 45's as more sound info per unit time...the needle goes over more distance in the same time... and they can have the grooves wider, with more space. Also, you ever put on a big 45rpm record, like a dance single or something? Stuff's gonna be louder than your 35minutes-crammed-onto-one-side-of-a-LP where the grooves aren't as loud...

whatever, it's not a huge difference, especially when you're eq'ing and adding effects and filters and whatever right? Just bear in mind what dude's saying about 45's and singles--they don't put rare b-sides or acapellas on full length albums, knowhatimean?

Yo if u get the chance harry peep some of the kon and amir or soulman break mixtapes, most of those type breaks they playin ud only usually find on 45's.

Also alot of tracks with drum breaks which are on 45's u dont always find the drum break on lp's and best of lp's etc.. they on occasion can be found edited out etc..

Go through ur 45's man dont sleep.. if i was u id leave the 12"s and shit and just go through the 45's for a while u could be sleepin on some real dope sh!t

daaaamn, I guess I have been sleepin pretty hard....I think it's just because I never really got into em' normally when I come across em they always look in fairly ruff condition and almost always never have sleeves etc.

I'm glad I made this thread though, it helped me see alot further then I had prior to it....and realize why alot of cats are up on the 45's etc....

I guess i'll have to clean em up and see what I come up with...I still love lp's and I think maybe because they're bigger and the artwork I favor who knows...its one them mental hang ups....

When buying collections do you find 45's to be cheaper or more expensive then lp's or about the same....?? Now that I look back I passed on alot of 45's n sh!t that I could of got alot cheaper then LP's but I always pass on em because of the covers/condition...maybe next time I'll keep my eyes on em'....

Again, it just depends on what you're looking for soundwise, but many a dope old school break can be found on a disco 12"

Co sign that one, i used to sleep like mad on the disco joints thinkin it would be some tacky sh!t, but u'll prob find a drum break on 8 out of 10 disco 12"'s

if your worry about jackets to 45's, you can usually buy very large quanities for real cheap. Most of the 45's i get usually have no jackets. I usually go to ttlab to get some

another good thing about a 45 is, say you hate an album but you love the single that was only put out on 45...just go and scoop it up.

A lot of good info from the guys here, but really, it DOES NOT matter on what kind of vinyl you get your music. Good music can be found on anything, whether it be 33RPM, 45RPM, 78RPM, 12", 7", 10", LP, single or whatever.

I NEVER heard someone say "Don't get 12" 33RPM singles, there is never good music on them".

I think ur gettin it wrong man... no one was tellin him to keep away from anything.. he was explainin how he been keepin away from 45's and we tellin him not to givin reasons...

There are a hell of alot of dope breaks on 45's u simply wont find on 12"'s.. which is what we where tellin him.. alot of classic breaks are the same, as well as alot of real dope rare groove and dusty fingers style breaks, of course u will find dope sh!t on all formats no one said u wouldnt, we was simply explainin reasons why he SHOULDNT keep away from 45's.. not reasons why he should keep away from any other record.

I guess u just miss read or got the wrong end of the stick some where
