1000 not playing events just recorded.

Hello all,

New to this forums, but have been lurking around for the last week or so. Helped out my decision to pick up a slightly used but still mint 1000 with 128 ram and a 2g CF card. Using it for quick pattern making and playback MIDI synced up with my mac + Ableton for dj sets. I've been using the track mutes to select/deselect diff rythyms (break, dub, 4/4 etc) hooked up to my mixer for cuing/making sure samples are loaded right.

Anywho, the problem I have been having is that when I record (overdub) the track it will record all but the last 1/2 bar in the measure. it will keep playing back what I just tracked UNTIL I go to try and elaborate on another. after that it just goes and forgets the last 2-3 counts of the pattern. This has not happened on any other sequences, but just this one and all tracks inside it.

Also, Is my method of bringing in different parts amateurish? (track mute/unmute together) somebody else doing the same thing, just in a dfifferent way? the main thing is that MPC is only really doing a 4 bar loop in sync with the software, nothing elaborate. also there so at anytime I can start smacking on a cowbell/making brown noise/"playing conga's. basically having fun with it.

record 4 bar loop-->stop--->go to next track and record new loop---->go back to old to find the last 1/2 bar has dissapeared---check new track only to find same thing.

I did search the forum before I posted this but... only so much "OMG ma boy has teh doppest ish in hsi studyo" and "the (whatever guy has) is so much better than (what other guy has) and you're a f***ing idiot" other such forum babble that I can only filter through until frustration/boredom sets in and then I realise could be spending this time trying to fix the problem instead of reading what some result of a broken prophylactic has managed to do with a keyboard.

can you expand on 'disappeared'? did you check your track in STEP EDIT mode, are the events there?
You should check also the LOOP mode you're on, is the loop set to play through your complete sequence?

events are still there in step edit, as well as a whole bunch of exclusives.

Loop is set to play for 4 bars, is set to from first bar to end,


as for dissappeared...

So I record my loop, lets say a little phatty breakbeat with the boom ba boom boom, as soon as 4 bars are up it switches over to overdub (so far so good) and plays back the boom ba boom I just made at which point I go hmmmm, needs more cowbell. So I proceed to laydown mad cowbell overtop of it all, we're talking 32 triplets with flying pans and filter sweeps with seven different types of samples, I get supersatisfied with myself light a smoke and press play only to find out everything after 002.01.00 is not playing. events are still in the list but not being played.

that sounds like a bug to me. There is no reason why the events shouldn't play, unless there is some strange thing there, such as a TRACK mute or some Volume setting to 0, or the likes. check out the events other than notes in your track, around the time the samples don't play anymore. See what you can find.

By "exclusives" I assume you mean system exclusive commands. Try removing or not recording these to begin with and see if you get any difference. 1000 SysEx performance can be a little unpredictable with different machines and it's possible the 1000 is running into a problem handling the stuff.

I tried erasing them already but they just kept popping back up. is it maybe to do with it being synced and recievving sysex from Live?

If they keep reappearing after you've used the erase function that's can't be a good sign. I don't use Live, but see if you can find the control to make it stop sending the SysEx to begin with, then start over and try recording your tracks without it.

most probably. try and recoçrd your stuff in the MPC standalaone, no midi_ connections at all, and see how it works. If it behaves well you can put the blame on Live and sort that out.
