what to do?

Okay,

I'm 17 and my parents reluctantly bought me two turntables and I haven't looked back since, but unfourtunately im on an incredibly tight budget.

I dig instrumental/underground hiphop and love funk and jazz; which basically got me wanting to start creating beats of my own.

Ideally I'd like to get an MPC but with such high costs I just dont think it's going to happen. My question to everyone is: Is there any cheap/free software, that can basically allow me to use my own samples (from my turntables and cds) and beat create. The software doesn't have to be nessicarily as powerful as an MPC, but just somthing that has the same basic features and works alright.

I'm quite well versed with computers so I think I just want to, for now, try and veer towards beat making software rather than actual MPCs.

you can get fruity loops...or you can get reason and a mpd16 and kind of do something like a mpc but dont think itll be the same but if your planning on buying the software i think it will come out the same as a used mpc

I would get an 2000 classic with no extras they are really affordable and give you everything you need.
Above all, the 2K classic is a very nice machine i would prefer it over the MPC 1000 anyday
Working with an MPC give you a cmplete different feeling and that´s priceless.

fruity loops or reason should be good for u if u want software..

i personally recommend u peep fruity loops 7 out

get an akai rack sampler.. one of the s series, they hundreds and hundreds cheaper then mpc's and only thing they dont have is the midi controls and sequencer which u can use any kinda midi keys for and fl studio etc..

U could find an akai s2000 for around $100 or so, would be MUCH cheaper and still much better then usin purly software

Yes b/c once u record it into a software(audacity-FREE) you can then save/export that file out as a .wav file. Then u can open that file up in Fruity Loop or Reason. Check the links below for free software that u can download man.

Or he could just record direct into fl studio if thats what he uses, less hassle then usin a diff prog to record then openin it up in fl

FL7 is def the best choice for you, IMO..

its an all in one workstation.. from recording/sampling, to sequencing, editing on down to mixing.. just make sure you get a decent audio interface with good drivers. and youre good to go..

Go and buy a copy of computer music magazine. It has all the plugins and a sequencer on their.

I started off wiv 2 baked beans tins and some string i stole off a gypsy.

I would trade those late nights of trying to capture a good hand clap sound for the world.

It was hard going but i guess it worked out in the end.

Now i am the best producer in the world, i have all the mpcs and pro tools and stuff. Some times i look back on my humble beggings and start crying.

At how such a talented young man had to fashion music on that gear i had to start wiv.


Maybe some one will make a film about it one day...

if dude cant afford a $49 program (just to get started), then maybe making music isnt his calling..

you have to invest something into this... FL is pretty much the rung, and its incredibly affordable and can do what $2000 machines can do.. so if he cant afford that, then he shouldnt be doing music..

i dont care what he gets or where he gets it, but truth is he will soon learn that he will appreciate what he does more if he actually INVEST in himself, which means paying...

im far from jealous, i have my own studio... and yes, there are free warez everywhere, but if someone is serious they will invest SOMEWAY or SOMEHOW in themselves..

and for your information FL7 (like most SW out there) has a trial period that this dude can actually take time to learn these tools before he spends his money..

$49 is bottom rung, and if he cant afford that very little investment, then it is my OPINION that he should not be trying to do music right now..

fl studio sounds as good as the signal u put into it.. all comes down to ur soundcard and every other factor.. fl studio itself doesnt change the sound u put into it.. it doesnt degrade sound in any way..

Yeah certain hardware has certain charicteristics which is one of the reasons why peeps prefer to use certain machines, but then the sound u want always comes down to personal preference.

For sequencin there is no diff soundwise between fl studio, logic, cubase, pro tools.. etc etc, the difference in sound depends on ur soundcard / hardware etc etc.

If people rely on free sh!t.. cracked software, downloads... then the companys bringin us tools to use for our music wont make theyre money back let alone profit, which will stop them from being able to bring is the hardware / software in the first place.
