Recording multiple tracks/channels at once? Help!!!

Just picked up my machine and I'm trying to move sequences/songs to the MPC 1000. I can't figure out how to record multiple channels at once. With the Midi Active track set to "All", the machine tries to put everything on track 1 and it can't handle the data.

I must be doing something wrong. Every machine I've ever worked with can handle many channels at once.

cant u just write a mid. file of your excisting song and put it on the machine using the usb connection?

I haven't tried this, but it's writing to the Active track, the one selected in the Main window. I second the advice 'bout just sending over a .MID file. I don't know why you would want to record multiple tracks at once, or from sequencer to sequencer these days...

USB mode is a pain, just use a CF card reader on the PC (<$10).

The main reason for not swapping midi files is because the songs are already in patterns (verse, chorus, solo, etc.) That means I'd have to save each pattern as a midi file and move each one over separately, load up separately and reassemble. Much easier to run the patterns in succession.

Thanks for the ideas. Don't you find it odd though that a machine such as this one won't let you record multiple tracks? My 1985 DOS software will even do that.

maybe it's weird, maybe not

it's more of a drum machine than a full featured sequencer like DP or Logic. im not saying it wouldnt be handy sometimes to be able to record on more than one track at a time...but that's not what mpc's are designed to do.

either way, the mpc 1000 doesnt do this (i dont know aboutthe other mpc's). so pick a workaround and have fun
