I dunno about not sampling a particular record (no disrespect to Ben E King) but it really f*cks me off when you hear someone like Jennifer Lopez biting the Beatnuts and passing it off as her own track.

Suppose this is just personal opinion. To me i could never take a sample from one of Herbie Hancock's albums. The guy is a genius and i could never better any of his work.

Its not about "bettering" its about adapting..

And plenty of other people are genuises.. even more so then hancock.. especially when it comes to what we dig for hiphop and how much closer and dope alot of other sh!t is..

When a collarge artist cuts up pics to make a collarge, they are not workin towards making something "better" then the original pics, they are simply just adapting them and making something new in an abstract kinda way... also whats better is totaly subjective and based upon personal preference. But even so i personally think u are looking at it wrong... which in my opinion would block alot when it comes to ur music making
