Need help with strong crackling sound...

I have a cheap turntable that I just use for sampling. It was working fine at first (or maybe I just didn't yet realize the problem). The other day I was playing a record with the sound low and it sounded like the needle was carving into the grooves of the record. When I started trying to figure out what was going on, It seemed more like it may be electrical popping (the needle is new by the way). Could this be a grounding issue? If so, how do I go about grounding it. The plug has no ground to it. It's a Gemini XL BD10. Please be specific, and thanks in advance...

something like this has happened to me before not sure of the technical terms but the 4 things u have to plug into the stylus on the tone arm werent plugged in all the way and that **** up the sound like it didnt come thru fully out both ears...

the tone arm wasnt on the right setting or whatever and didnt hit the record right

I have tried other records and it is still there, I will defffinately check the connections and the tone arm when I get home. Thank you both.

adjust your tone arm weight to optimal setting

get cleaner records

get better needle

any tonearm without a weight on it will carve into your records more than one with a weight.

invest in a decent turntable...that ION USB turntable is like $150 at Best Buy around here

Yeah, I think I need to add some kind of weight to the tone arm. Maybe a washer or something... Eventually, I'd like to get a used technics

I taped a few nickels to the back end of the tone arm, and it completely took care of the problem! If anyone has the same problem, make sure to try this.
