Cubase sx/ sound card options for 8-outs?

i am finally geting around to bringing the pc into the mix. i have a synth, mpc, decks. will i want to get a mixer to mix down all these channels and record a live take into cubase? i haven't got the software yet but it is coming so these are preemptive questions. any recommendations on a sound card? what will i need to have in order to record all 8 outs of the mpc into cubase as individual tracks (or mixer channels?) all in one take? Thanks for any help here.

You will need a soundcard with 8 analog inputs. There are tons of soundcards like this, but which one you choose is mostly a budget issue.

i've just bought a new card myself after researching all the options for a month or so. I use cubase sx as well as an mpc2000xl.
I've got an RME card now. I took that one because they have a good reputation for support and driver updates on pc's. If i had a mac i would get a MOTU.
If you want something slightly cheaper you can go for M-Audio or ST-Audio.

I have a pc and i have motu 828mkII. People will tell you that motu on pc's have problems and that in some cases are true but if you do your research you will find out what most fo the problems are and you can find out if you computer is good for it. most of the problems come just from the fire wire port which has to be Texas Instrument chip not a (NEC) but you could also use (VIA) cause thats what i use and it works good. I use it with Nuendo.

I use the rme card also with a multiface. Slightly on the expensive side but works perfectly.

you could get a digi 001 second hand for not that much, but you say you have cubase on its way.
I'm in the same position as you and Djames suggested getting a behringer ADA8000 that converts the 8 outs into digital ADAT then put the out from the ADA into the soundcard, in djames case an emu 1212m. I'm considering this as it only comes to just over £300, the motu 828 looks tasty tho.

Motu is definately a good choice their new firewire interfaces are great. I would highly reccomend them. I run an RME Multiface and its been a really good choice for me. If I were looking into a new interface at this point I would also consider looking at the new Tascam firewire interface/digital mixer and the Yamaha equivilent. Gives you a full featured interface I/O, digital mixer, preamps all with tons of routing options including MIDI implementation and full controll over cubase or logic or whatever your running. Just a suggestion but worth checking out...
