Just a question that I thought I'd throw out there , recently I've been fully tweaking my samples through software and only using the mpc to sequence the samples , I'm no pro with the MPC and SURELY there must be sum kinda freaky things u can do with the samples as far as eiditing goes? , like using software packages I can fully change the sound of a sample into something entirely new... can someone answer me this... can the mpc 2500 match software when it comes to sample tweaking? , in comparison to something like .. the Reason software?

i never found reason to be great for sample editing. but compared with soundtrack pro for mac or wavelab/soundforge (and the extensive plug-ins compatible with these) for pc, the mpc has far fewer features. you can do your normal cut/paste, silence, reverse, normalize, timestretch, pitchshift, etc. then you can resample through effects by recording the main outs. if you were going for unrecognizability... sure that's possible.

the virtue in mpc sample editing for me is that it's all in one box and i tend to focus more on the music when i'm limited in terms of options. but if i need an ill lo-pass, hi-pass, or the ability to layer sounds more exactly, i'm either editing on the pc or going through sends.

hope this stayed on topic.

yeah I know all that stuff man thats just ur bread and butter editing kinda shit , thats whats EXPECTED , but is there more? , I thought about it , cause I've just turned a piano sample into a sub bass thru reason , and it just pisses me off having to transfer from MPC to PC via USB , if ur saying reason ISNT that great as far as sample editing goes and then saying the MPC CAN'T really hold its own against reason than is it almost useless as far as sample editing goes?... because my real question is this...

when updates arrive will it be possible to program new effects into the OS? , or is that a hardware thing? , how come u can't get a realistic display of a waveform? I find that editing waveforms on the mpc is a slow and tedious way to do things , ... so when updating is there a possibility that akai could actually IMPROVE the features it has so far??? or extend on the poor effects features so we can really mess with a sample in the box and leave it there without relying on a PC or MAC with software to do so ... would that not be a large step towards the "one unit for all" kinda thing???

The 2500 isnt a 'Workstation', that means no, it wont become as you imagine...
Also its the first time i hear about Reason bein a powerfull sample editin toy!
In this case most of the Virtual Samplers can be even better, but id suggest to use a real sample editor as Peak, Wavelab, Audacity and so on.

No I'm not saying reason is a powerful sample editor , but if ur saying its a TOY and the MPC clearly can't compare(as far as sample editing goes) than what does that make the MPC???... less than a toy?

it's described as a Sampler/Sequencer/Drum Machine... are u missing the point here? , so ur saying this unit is getting sold to people who are just expected to have a PC to tweak samples?, dont get me wrong I like my 2500 , I just dont see how hard it would be to add simple features like that

i think you'd be more into something in the Roland MV series. sell you mpc and get a roland mv-8000- you can edit more, use plug-in effects, etc.

other than that, i'd say just know what you're getting into before you drop $1500 on something.

If you are unsure about what you want for your needs you should probably do a bit more research. But by the sounds of it you've made you mind up.
Most people here have the MPC and PC. If you want to tweak your samples with the control that you are refering to then you should probably by;
A PC £500-1000
Wavelab £300
Bundle of Waves plugins £500

p.s. if you run a computer (You sound like a PC user) then you get contention on anything that you run on the PC right? Whereas with a standalone hardware box, you have dedicated resources which will never (ahem, should never) be in a state of wait for the CPU or memory.
So you could say that the MPC is better is because of the low contention of internal resources. But most people like it cause they can actually feel the rhythms out rather than programing with a keyboard and mouse.

I mean its all kinda obvoius en it???
