If you consider the 4000 a PC, then so is the 60, 3000, 2000, 2000xl, and 1000, every single sampler and worksation on the market. But hey if it makes you guys feel better.........

i dont regret it one bit. anything i cant do with the mpc i switch over to my mac to do. just like the 1k was designed for ya know?

you wouldnt pick up a bass and get pissy about how you cant play piano with it right?

i think the 1k is really pretty sick. and it's got such a huge sound to it too.

nah definitely no regrets here.

This is wrong wrong wrong wrong. I've owned both. Have you?

I had no problems with my 4k, the thing basically ruled. It had a few quirks, but the nightmare stories you hear are generally from people who simply didn't know what they were buying. e.g. why can't I burn audio CDs with this thing?" )

It was more firepower than I was using at the time (I still do alot of Sx/ProTools-based work, and use several soft-samplers, so I didn't need alot of the features.) But the architecture was pretty logical (it does contain a real sampler) and it was very usable. I sort of regret selling it.

The 1k suits my needs: I wanted a scratchpad for ideas that wasn't a computer, and a sequencer/sampler to play live with. But if I were trying to do anything more than that with it, I would feel pretty held back.

If you want an end-to-end workstation, the 4k is a beast. Make sure you understand what it can and can't do before buying, and you won't be disappointed...

I read the on-line manual for the 4k. That's actually what made me decide to go ahead and get it. It had everything I was looking for. I only want one machine to do my work on. I thought I wouldn't mind being dependent on a PC until I got the 1000 and realized it's just not working for me. I think the 4K is a good choice. I didn't even think about the burning audio cd's. That would be cool though.

And six-wax the 1000 is my only piece of gear and I feel really held back with it myself. Thanks for the feedback!

Lou1- I feel you. The MPC hasn't evolved much in 10 years...I expected a whole lot more from it, but decided to use it for what it was instead of what I expected it to be. Oh well. gotta keep making music. good luck on the 4k...

Sometimes less is more......just my personal experience....it forces you to inovate and come up with new ways of doing things.

Sometimes having thousands of plugins and stuff isn't a good thing..

Anyway...good luck with the 4000

Instead of getting a 4000, I'd get a mixer and some outboard fx and filters (hella cheap now that software is taking over). I like your beats (they sound good champ) and I dont really see where your trying to go with your music, or how your held back??? Your posting all this stuff but arent saying what your aiming for. Oh well, i wouldnt mind having a 4000, good luck mang!

Dove, all I'm really aiming for is a all in one workstation for composing my tracks at this time. Really, nothing more nothing less. I'm not doing this to improve my beats per se, mostly my work flow and productivity. At this point I just want one thing to concentrate on. One machine, One task...Composing! As far as I can tell the 4k has everything I need to do this, and more, in one package. After I master the 4k and composing I'm moving on to other outboard gear. But for now this is where my head is at, and I don't have any room for more than 1 or maybe 2 pieces of gear anyway. I think it's a decision that's going to work well for me.

thats cool but I think the 4k is used if you have a lot of MIDI gear. I would get the 2kxl, but if you got the 4k good choice.

word lou. the thing that appeals to me bout the 4K is the full fledged z sampler inside (no need for a rack sampler) and the ak.sys, but the filters and fx sound like ish, besides im in love with my dinosaur setup 3K + s950. best post some 4K boats when you get it.

Also, and I don't think I'm the only one here who has the same problem, but the computer is the BIGGEST and I mean BIGGEST distraction I have in my life right now. I use the same PC for typing this right now as I do to process my samples and record, and whatever else. I just can't get much work done with this. The internet is the biggest distraction in the world for me. I'll be timestretching a sample or loading something up, and I'll pop up the browser just thinking I'm going to spend a minute or two browsing...and then...shit...I've spent a couple hours doing nothing, but diicking around on the internet! I literally cannot work with my PC! The move to the 4k is more a "personal" decision than a "technical" one in a lot of aspects, but the power and feat. that I saw in the manual is what made me make my decision. I've looked through the 2xl manual as well, and frankly for the things I want to do with samples it just doesn't have, even with the EB16. With 2xl, knowing what feat. I usually use to process my samples, I would still be reliant on my PC. Internet addiction is as bad as any other kind of addiction. I need to do this for me.

I even tried working on my 1000 alone without my PC, but got mad frustrated because I couldn't do all that I wanted to do with it, so BAM! This is what it is!

If anyone is reading this and comes to the conclusion that the 1000 sucks, please don't! It's a very good machine, and it suits a lot of peoples needs. It's very good at what it is designed to do, but it's limited for my needs. It's a personal thang! Ya dig!

Man, I think the 1000 is great so far. I dont use reverse or time stretch. I cut up my ish to make it fit. Ols school way. Thats what the Mpc is all about. I dont even consider the 4000 an Mpc really. Its a whole nother thing. Compared to my 2000 its great. And my 2000 is expaned as far as it can go.
