Bought my 1000 used off ebay in Dec 04 for $800. I am still extremely happy with it. One of the best purchases I ever made. All my pads are still in mint condition due to my working habits.
The 2500 is an awesome machine, but so is the 1000. If I were buying today, I would still get the 1000 because I don't have room for the 2500 in my studio. The 1000 fits my needs perfectly. If I did have the room for a 2500 and I could find one for around $1500 total, I might would get that one. I really like the tilt screen on it.
Functionality-wise, the 2500 doesn't have anything on it I need that I can't get with my 1000 in my current setup. So paying 2 grand for it seems way overpriced.
The pad issue is not even an issue for me, however, if my pads ever do go out, I will just replace them all with NYM's pad design.
My advice to anyone out there is to get the mpc that best fits what you need from it. Good luck.
