hi there im new to the world of production and basically im looking into buying an mpc2500. im almost completley computer illiterate, i just want a basic setup for sampling from vynils. I am under the impression that i need to get myself an mpc a mixer a turntable and some speakers, some vynils and a good ear for a sample am i right??? i dont want to go in at the deep end and have to mess around with pcs and protool mixin etc.. i think that will b 2 much at first so is the above equipment suggested good enough for starting in the world of hiphop/ triphop beat making?? any info would greatly appreciated!!!

It's a good Idea to get an MPC 1000 and Vestax QFO, you won't need a mixer this way!

I got the following at these prices (just to give you an idea):

2000xl (500€ - used perfect condition)
- eb 16 (125€ - used perfect condition)
- card reader (75€ - new)
60 (500€ - used very good condition)
sl1210 (500€ - new)
vestax07 (1000€ - new and 300€ or something used)

So that would be like 2200€ for everything you want (just one mpc so not the 60 AND the xl) except speakers. So in that case you would have more than enough to spend on monitors.

I wouldn't recommend that vestax 07 mixer though. It all depends also on what you wanna do with the turntable - mixer setup. Do you wanna get into skratching aswell and such?

As a mixer, I have also the technics dmc battle mixer (400€ new) which has a great sound if you ask me but it's so beat up I have to fix it asap. I wouldn't go for a Vestax mixer because of the sound.

I don't have good monitors so I can't share experiences in that field.

Regarding MPC's, a 2000xl would be a good cheapish option comparing to a 2500 new. I've never used a 2500 so I can't comment on the advantages over a 2000xl.

You won't need a soundcard. You can just dump stuff into wav files on your mpc, and upload them to your computer via USB cable or CompactFlash cards.
Vestax QFO LE is great for sampling, you can get really creative with its pitch options
