Roland MV series -Timing issue?

I'm just curious;

many years after Roland released the MV8000, who still think this sequencer has a timing issue?

Many mpc users have migrated and have no problem, that's a fact.

Some retarded people here also think that it's impossible to deactivate the quantize feature.

I'm quite sure many of us simply never have tried the MV8000/8800. Or maybe 5 minutes in a store, without consulting the manual...So they cant have a realistic opinion, and dont' think by themselves...as Pavlov's sheeps.

I spent about an hour with the 8800 in the store. I am not stupid. The 8800 made me feel stupid. The function layout is about as akward as they come. The functionality on the mv is horrible in my opinion. I spent the same amount of time with the Korg Triton extreme and could access just about every single function, and had the thing damn near figured out in the same amount of time. Maybe the Triton 'thinks' like I do, I dunno, but it was way easier. In my opinion, if you are going to spend 1500+ for an MV, buy a really nice laptop, Cubase or whatever program you work best with, a trigger finger or mpd and take your girl out to dinner with the rest of the money you saved. Roland can lick my sack.

This common to most heavy MPC users. You can't expect for the MV to behave like a MPC. You must be willing to start with a clean slate. If you look at the quick start videos on Roland's site, the dude takes you from start to finish in no time flat.

Why didn't you just ask for help? Did really take you hour to figure out that wasn't your MPC in front of you?

If you don't know your way around a strange city, you COULD get lost! All you'll need to find your way around is good directions!! Same rule applies here! An otherwise smart person could get lost easy, and a stupid person was lost from the beginning!

I said all of that to say.....the MV has many different chambers and hidden screens that can be accessed! If you have the monitor and mouse connected, most of the screens have shortcut tabs. However, if you are just dealing with the MV's screen itself....you can get lost! If the MV had all dedicated buttons on the panel for every screen...it would be 3 times the size! Honestly, I've been using a 20" flatscreen with the MV so long....that I too would be lost for a while if I didn't use it! I forgot most of the steps you take when the VGA is not in use! The difference is like night & day!

As for the timing issue! Again, if you don't know what you're doing....you'll be lost! The MV swings like Tarzan! You have SEVERAL places that you can adjust the quantize or turn it off! This allows you to make your tracks fit anything you are doing in many twisted ways.

Many dudes hit the record button and tap out a beat (MPC style) on the pads of the MV according to the metronome clock. When it plays back it sounds way off...and probably is! What they don't realize is....all of those quantize settings are not set, which throws off the playback! The metronome clock always plays the same...no matter what quantize settings are used. Well, unless you change the 4/4 time signature to something else!

I spent about the same amount of time in the store with the MPC 1000 before I bought one and had a solid understanding of almost all of the functions of it in that short amount of time. This is my benchmark for a good quality machine that I can use. If I don't feel comfortable off the bat, the machine is not laid out the way I want it to and very likely I will become frustrated with it in the future. I won't buy a machine just because somebody saw a video of The RZA and Jermaine Dupree big talking it, or just because some people think its the best thing since sliced bread.

In short, **** the mv8800

i had the 2000xl a few yaers and a 1000 a few years even with the jj os u can t beat the mv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

remenber when the mpc 1000 came out with a buggy os it takes akai and six month to bring out an update....same with the 4000 what happens the os is still buggy!!!

Swing, timing, & feel are the number one complaints of MPC users!
The MV swings like Tarzan! Setting your quantize parameters is the
only thing stopping any MPC-head from having the same timing and
swing! Above is what to look for! Turn off your quantize and make
sure the setting at the top left is around 120 or 60. Also when you hit
"Record" a screen will pop up with your metromome settings! Check all
of these things and see what happens, then experiment with the settings
to get the right feel that fits YOU!

Hold down SHIFT + ROLL and change your Roll [MPC's TAP] setting for
rapid notes. Using the Quantize Grid, Shuffle, & Template [not shown here] gives you so many combinations of swing and timing, that you should be able to make the MV swing any way you want it to....NO EXCEPTIONS!
You have MORE power & swing control really..... many just don't realize this! Each track can have it's own swing or quantize settings. You can also highlight and only change certain sections within a track if you choose.

PS....You can turn the purple scheme to many different colors if you don't do purple!
