hooking up a 2kXL with an akai S-1000

What up, I bought a cheap S-1000 Sampler last week and I want to connect it with my MPC via midi and connect a Keyboard to this system, but I've never worked with midi, so any suggestions how it works?

If it iis connected, do I have to mix the mpc & the s1000 analoge on a mixer or does the mpc gives out the audio-signal of the Sampler?

mpc midi out -> s-1000 midi in
Then you set up your tracks to send to the proper midi channel on the sampler. You'll probably want to do some reading in the sampler manual on that.

MPC and s1000 both have their own audio outputs. You will need a mixer to hear both at the same time.

allright, and with that connection I can trigger the Samples of tha S1000 to the pads or to the keyboard right?

The way I layed it out will allow you to use the pads and/or the keyboard at the same time. This requires the current track you are on to be set to the proper MIDI channel. Then once you record notes into the sequencer, it will still play back when you move off of that track.

Now I've hooked up the MP with the S1000 and it works well - but I don't get the method how I can trigger for example a drum-kit out of the S1000 to different pads on the XL - it's easy to play melodies with the pads but I wanna have 10 Samples on 10 different pads - Is that possible? - I think It has something to do with the keygroup-setup, but I don't get it - Anyone got experience with dat Sampler or other similar Akai S-Sampler?

whatup? nobody got some Ideas how I can trigger Samples of the S1000 to single Pads on the MPC? - I've read the S1000-manual, but it says nothing about it, I guess....

well if you have a keyboard, I know you can setup keygroups in the s1000 and setup the layout of the keyboard so you can throw your kit over the keys and assign which key triggers which sound. and maybe it will also set the mpc up the same way (i doubt it though)....but as far as the mpc goes, im not sure it works that way.

if you dont have a keyboard then why not just setup your keygroups in the s1000, route each drum hit to a different midi channel and bang out your drums that way? im sure you thought of that but without a keyboard, im not sure if there's any other way

every pad on the mpc trigers a different midi note. assign the samples in your s1000 to the same notes that the pads are playing!

I think he'll have to define keygroups for that anyway. One keygroup for each sample, each keygroup only one note wide (if you don't wanna play the sample in different pitches). Assign the sample to a keygroup, and set the "Original Note" of the sample to the corresponding note of the keygroup so it plays it at the right pitch. Then you just have to find the right pad on the MPC to trigger the note - or assign it by hand.

Don't know if there's a simpler way.
