adventures in sampling

first off. I am a firm believer in the search feature, i've been around awhile at guitar forums and get tired of the repeat threads. so I am going to up and apologize. but I am unsure what to search for, because searching sampling... well that brings up 3201 threads.

my question

right now I am working with a 2xl. my problem is that when I sample, I only have 10.9 secs worth of sampling time. So after sampling like four different horns or whatever, i'll have little to no memory left to sample. After I save the samples, I am still not able to sample more. Which causes me to save all my work, turn off the mpc and sample more. a pain.

any links to in depth RAM threads/sites on buying and installing? besides the manual.

XL comes with 2Mb stock, and is upgradable to 32Mb.
Look on ebay for 2KXL Ram, it shouldn't cost too much.

Well I understand that I only have 2 mb of ram, but is there anyway I can save a sample and then have more sample time without turning the machine off?

yeah you could sample, then save it to floppy or zip disk, then purge un-used samples from memory (assuming you didn't assign the sound to a pad yet).

but dude seriously upgrade that ram to 32megs.

probably has all the info you could ever want about your XL.

but i'm afraid it will mess with my workflow namean. recording a sequence into a tape deck, press stop then turning the xl off and recording the next sequence instead of recording straight songs. yeah i got some learning to do but it makes me happy listening to my cassettes while rolling in the buick.

just messin , i'll scrounge up for some RAM.
