I had the same problem.

Only way to fix it is to get the 128 mb ram.

im really pissed, you cant do sh1t with 16 ram if you do beats from samples from records. now i got like hihat, bassdrum, snare and 4 second sample, and i cant make beat outta that...the four second sample dont play to the end after adding the drums. this is really really really wack.
cant this be just some bug? whhatta ell is this

Pete Rock makes his beat on the SP and he is limited to 10 sec. And well all know he makes bangers.

And I have loaded 5 beats at once with the 16 mb ram. What you need to do is trim all the extra cra p from your samples. Learning how to sample is really a long learning process, but once you get a grasp of it your RAM restriction will be a thing of the past.

And NO this machine is NOT WACK nor is it cheap, you haven't learned how to control it yet, it seems to be controling you. With time you'll learn to work around problems such freezes (I have never had to reboot the MPC because a freeze, nor have I lost any work yet) or any other difficulty.

Be patience.

I am able to play 12 seconds samples with out any problems.

You need to check the decay setting on the pad that your sample is assigned to. Read the manual to find out what decay is, where to find and how to adjust it. Also check to see if your long sample is assigned to a mute group, or is mono as opposed to poly, then adjust them accordingly.

I got the 1000 and havnt had that problem once. Like the man said, you must trim off all the excess space. If you are cutting your drums and not looping breaks you should have plenty of space. Im working on 2 beats at once right now and no problems.

bass lines also take up crazy bass due to the size of the waves.

Yeah that's true. I think the Chocolate Boy Wonder uses a 2KXL now. Check the RAM post to get some cheap non-Akai ram.

It's tough, but it can be done. Make sure you sample in mono also if you can... saves memory.

Speaking of pete rock why don't you try the method of putting your table on 45rpm get the sample in that way and just tune down till it's at the right pitch. It will save you memory.
