in need of URGENT recording help: eliminate overdub?

this is me after finding out that after every 2 bars i record, that obnoxious overdub recording crap replays everything i recorded for that two bars and basically ruins the song i wa sin the process of making. i do realize that there are very helpful uses for the overdub but seeing as ive only had the 1000 for a week im not at that level haha. so basically, i want to know the following:

1) How can i change the length of when overdub recording commences?

2) How can i remove overdub altogether temporarily?

3) How do i adjust the tempo of the bars on my recording to match my song and will that also apply to the overdub recording?

I would like to know as much info as soon as possible because in about 16 hours i will be in a suburban on my way to portland oregon for 2 weeks with my mpc in my lap, therefore i would like to get my s**t together so i can get alot of work done over the trip. thanks for all your help. if you know where some of these answers might be in the manual, or if you have links to other websites or topics that discuss this i would greatly appreciate that as well because i will have occasional internet access over my time on the road. thanks in advance.

1. change the number of bars

2. turn loop off

3. you use the same tempo for each seq.

i would suggest you take the next 16 hours to read the manual, and use you trip to learn more about the machine.

If you're recording a 2 bar sequence, play it for 2 bars, then as soon as the loop starts again, hit the overdub button and it will no longer overdub anything, and you can play over what you just recorded without recording anything new, and it will still loop. I think maybe that is where you were trying to go with that?

i tried that but it isnt out of the realm of possibility that i was late in pressing overdub

after you record what you want, just hit STOP on the sequencer. then it stops recording. Then you can play whatever you want.

you can't just expect the machine to know when to stop recording. You have to tell it to do so.

maybe i'm crazy but this problem/question doesn't really make much sense to me.

Simplest way.

Record your 2,4,6, whatever bar loop, then STOP PUSHING THE **** PADS.


Press stop. Press play again and you can experiment with new sounds etc. Then when you figure out what you want to add, add them to a new track by re-recording.

my loss? haha. i think im gunna spend alot of time finding quality samples before i start any projects. i dont think im going to the festival. you should join me though cuz 4 ears are better than 2 haha
