would this be a ideal setup?

Hey guys wassup i have a powerbook g4 (mac) with protools le 6.2.3 version.
although i am fairly new to mac and protools.ive been messing around but i know i want my own beat machine since im fairly new to it would it be better to get the mpc1000 or the mpc2000xl.
I will be playing with everyday i just got fired so i have a lotta free time.i dont want to get the 1000 then figure everything out and think i should of got the 2000xl you know what i mean.
Also do you think my cpu will handle it or does my cpu even have a lot to do with the mpc? like i said i really am fairly new to the industry but plan to make a full time thing.
The work i will be mostly doing is underground hip hop and some jazz w/lyrics because of little sister.(sade type music).
Sort and sweet do you think this will be good for me to learn on,i am a very fast learner..mpc1000 or 2000xl?

2000xl. Look through the 2000 section and the production techs secs. This question has been asked numerous times. The 2kxl has more features and options then the 1000. But if you are rocking a computer you might like the 1000. I own a 2000xl and am very satisfied with the usabiltity and versaltitlity of the machine

but Protools sucks with MIDI so I would most def buy a 2000xl.

I know i might annoy some users here, but why not just get a keyboard that can trigger your sounds through protools. I got a 2000xl and it is cool and all, but i never realised i could do the same thing simply by hooking up a midi keyboard to cubase. I mean, it is still press record, then hit s*#t right? Could save yo money if you wanna try something that still serves logic. Just chucking my two cents in.

2000 XL like a standalone machine....1000 hooked up with the MAC.

I got pro tools a mpc, 3 keyboards and sounds mods. The midi in Pro Tools is slept on. Mad people heard someone say a few years back that the midi on it sucks, and quote that like mormons quote the bible. They are full of shit and probably never used or took time out to learn Pro Tools. To be completly honest with you, you got PT, why would you need a sampler with a sequencer now? You can sample and sequence using the audio grid. Since I started using PT i use my MPC less and less, and at this point only use it for drums. Get a tight board man. Get the slickest one you can afford, and make sure its multitimbral.

Apparently, MIDI on PT used to suck, but nowadays I guess it's up there with cubase and the others, that used to to only MIDI.

But I'm not a protools users, just reiterating what I've read (and heard).

whoa, easy man. protools definitely does not suck with midi. i use it everyday and that sh*t locks up tight as a biyatch with my mpc. dead on. never had a problem with it. perhaps you were using a dated version, or were not using it properly.

get an mpc 2000xl. turn your computer off for at least 2 months. learn your mpc. learn it some more. turn your computer back on. learn how to use protools with your mpc. if you dont know anything about the recording/mixing game., dont expect you will be able to just jump in and start doing this full time for a living. this is something you will be learning the rest of your life. i consider myself a student of recording/mixing/production and i do it for a full time job. i plan on being a student forever. its what makes this industry so cool. there is always something new to learn or some new piece of gear that you will want to try. but you wont be pro over night, even if youre a fast learner.

Man guys, i really really appreciate the constant feedback.So maybe i should look into some keyboards before dedicating to a 2000xl? any special brand or model? 1500$ and under tho.
TOO the ADVANCED members if you were i what would you do honestly if you had my setup and could not change what i already have.

I'd get a Motif if I were you. Best bang for your buck. I guess a Korg or Kurzweil would really do the trick also. I got a motif, they are hot and the sounds and features are crazy. you can expand it with the expansion boards, take a look at it. The board version even has a built in sampler IF you really want one.
