nookncranny or bitsnbits

when i check records I do bitsnbits. But sometimes things'll slip by. I tossed a record to someone else because I didn't like the record and dude used a break I didn't even hear. crazy stuff. now it's all nooksncrannies. How do you guys go about that?

(p.s, clean crates you find off the street, black widows can LURK)

im assuming your asking how ppl go about finding out if a record is worth keeping or not?

my answer is that there is no way.

every record is worth something, to someone anyway.

I meant, when you come back from buying records, do you listen to the entire record? Or do you preview it, skipping through the tracks if nothing piques your interest? Not whether it's worth keeping, I was just saying that sometimes little parts can go by unnoticed.

used to skip through but i did this with a record i know has a nasty drum break and realized i missed the break so i listen to whole records from now on and i sell a record if its wack shit if its good or listenable or part of an artist i likes collection i'll keep it

ohh. well i usually skip through, dont usually listen to the whole record, unless i hear something good in the beginning or somewhere in the record. then i just might go back and listen to the whole thing

I get way too many records to listen to them all from start to finish.

My rule of thumb is;

1) Find the Numark PT01, Vestax Handy Trax, or Fisher-Price portable turntable to dig.
2) Go to places that encourage your lsitening to the records they have.
3) Play from the silence and count to 15 (seconds) after the song starts.
4) Pick it up and put the needle some place in the middle(ish).
5) Pick up the needle and skim the end.

I generally find at least 3 useable parts in mostly every record I buy just from doing this really fast. Why that may not mean something to others….obviously it makes that record WAY more valuable to me.

So often I am digging in places without a table to listen to anything so I just blindly buy it and it’s usually good in some spot on the record. I have yet to buy something that I haven’t been able to use….even if it’s just to cut up on my tables.
