2000 does something the 4000 can't?

2000 does something the 4000 can't?

I cut and paste this from a interview w/ scott storch. Was wondering if thi is applies to the 4000? Is it not able to do this?

"My main drum programming comes from the MPC3000 and 2000 side by side,” Storch says. “I think the 3000 is the best sounding. But the MPC2000 is the most user-friendly. You can change the instrument that corresponds with [the MIDI channel] without having to stop the record. That's important for me while I'm creating.”

You can do program change by using midi. If you assign the controller to program change and the program to a program change number you can do this.

Most samplers with midi work this way nothing new except that you have more 6 controllers on the 4k besides the afterkey Slider on the 2, and 3k.

The way I read that has nothing to do with program changes in midi. I read it as on the 2k/2kxl changing the midi channel on the main screen while the beat is playing. Yes, you can change midi track channels while you playback on the 2k/2kxl, don't know about the 4k. But I'm willing to bet you can do the same thing on a 4k. I can do it on my ASR10 and Triton extreme as well, it's not a revolutionary thing to do, it's normal in all the samplers I've used before. But why'd this get compared to the 4k anyway? He never even mentioned the 4k.

Coming from a 2xl and now with a 4k and 3k all the midi tracks he seems to be talking about are midi tracks going out to external instruments. All midi equipment does this even the 3k does this.

With program change I don`t need to mess with the jog wheel to do this I can program it in by step edit or assign the values to a qlink and turn it manually on the fly for both internal sounds and external instruments set to the same track.

Most users use the 3k as the sequencer connected to the 2xl cuz they believe the timing and bounce on the 3k is better it`s a actual roger linn product. My boy uses the 2xl/3k combo mainly for visual editing of samples and the increased sampling time and edit functions of the 2xl with the 3k sequencing.

All the mpcs let you change the midi tracks in the main page. Check page 30 in the 2xl manual eldorado. MPC2000XL may be a better buy starting off as I and Lamp would agree its a classic in it own right. But as I have graduated to the 4k using it after 3 odd yrs. Yes the 4 is way beyond what a 2k can do. It`s really up to the user to learn midi and the how sequencers and samplers work.

I think the storch articles is about mpc 2k with his keyboards midied up as Storch is renowned keyboardist.
