ON this site when they tell you how to chop breaks they give you a link to a propellerhead free program called recycle 2.1..i just want to know the best way to chop up a break, like why not just use the MPC for that? are they're any other ways/methods that anybody cares to let me in on when it comes to choppin...peace

you can chop on the MPC in trim then zone. Read the manual.

yes i am very well aware of that but my question is whats the main difference between the two of them ? why would one use reycle 2.1 when he has the mpc is a better question?

what i mean is..
If you are used to chopping up beats with the Zone function on your MPC, you'll probably be well aware of its limitations:

The MPC simply chops at equal intervals and completely ignores where the peaks are within your loop - this means most slices are incorrect and need manually fixing.
Your slices end very abruptly, with no natural decay on the end.
If you try to recreate the beat at a slower tempo than the original, you get very obvious gaps in between each slice
. ..doesn this mean the eb-16 is needed >?or what other ways are there to do this so there isnt those obvious ubrupt ending sounds????,i been diggin in the crates for years i have pleanty of breaks i bought the mpc- time to chop um get what im saying???

Recycle 2.1 doesn't have those wonderful pads to trigger the chops....

Sample just the kick and snare, play your own pattern with it and sequence it. Best way to chop a break in my opinion.

Benny bleazy:
I don't know about the 2000 but 2KXL does not just chop into even parts...
You just go to Start or End in the Zone screen and adjust the numbers with the data wheel or enter them in manually... then you hit open window to go to the Zone End Fine or Zone Start Fine to zoom in and set your zones to zero crossings... And you don't need to leave gaps when you slow a break down like you said, that's crazy, you just either tune the whole thing down before you chop it, or loop each chop and go to Parameters>Tune and it will show you the new bpm of the chop as you tune it, as long as you had it set to loop in the loop screen.
It really is all in the manual, but I have ADD too so I feel you.
Recycle will auto detect the slice points but then you won't be forced to LISTEN, so you might miss out on something that sounds hot even though it isn't perfect according to a computer.

I would recomend against getting recycle.
I got it a year ago, spent mad hours chopping things, but the transference back and forth to the computer was a headache. You can do cool stuff with it, but if you have any experience chopping by hand, you end up using recycle as just a large version of the mpcs zone edit screen (at least I did). So either way you are back to slicing by hand (except now you be out 150 bucks and have a headache + the money you spent on getting a zip for your mpc). Second, due to file format issues, you cant give your samples meaningful names in recycle longer than six (?) digits. Like, say you have a smaple in recycle like Drumloop5 011 (for drum loop 5, sample number 11). When you load it up in the mpc it comes out "DU890-->3" or somehting like it. There are work arounds, but why bother.

Recycle is great, if you use reason or another software sequencer, as you can load those files straight into it. But for the MPC, it is, in my opinion, more of a hassle than its worth.

So I say chop on the MPC screen. It aint that hard. If you want the midi file thing, you can just play the beat back and record along with it (this will help with your playing timing as well).

If you must get Recycle 2.0, however, I'll sell you my unregistered copy for $75 (box manual and registration card included). PM me.

as for aburpt ends... cut the sound from the end of the hit to the begining of the next hit. Then set the decay for 5 on the program screen to get rid of any clicks. If its still clicking, zoom in so you see exactly where the sample begins before you cut.

i would just get the mpc editor. You can make programs with the Recyle cuts and then transfers take 2 seconds.

yes this is an option and I have been using mpc editor in conjunction with recycle...

mpc editor automatically converts the names of the samples to that shortened format I mentioned earlier. MPC editor also can load akp files (at least in theory).

I purchased mpceditor the same time I purchased recycle so please view my above comments as those of a recycle+mpceditor user.

I now use niether. Why? I didnt find them useful in the long run. you already have) then recycle+mpceditor may not be worth it as you can do everything you already do without it.

Like I said, lots of cats swear by recycle...

I do however, have a question... First have any of you all used recycle 2.1? Are the extra goodies to comes with any good?
Second, if yes, is the reason midi player compatiable with the mpc midi sequencer? In other words, if I sequence something in reason can I save the file and transfer it to the mpc?

Thanks Im trying to decide if I should up grade or sell...
