I am debating on being impulsive and getting an mv8800.

I haven’t been able to decide if I wanted to make the jump from akai to roland. Some tell me that the mv 8800 is exactly what I want. Others tell me that I should just stick with the 2500, and 1000.

I’ve used a 4000 and I just don’t take advantage of half the features it offered.

I don’t know, if you truly like the mv8800 I might just go pick it up today.

Not going to sell my mpcs, i'd love to have both till i decide so i can viably debate the two.

Think it's worth doing?

It really depends, not so familar with the 4000 but if you're not using half the features then I'm not sure you'll use them on the 8800! Basically the 8800 was a great way to get a 1 in all box for me, which some people think is stupid but i find to help my workflow. with my 2000xl selling for so much this was a no brainer (for me). If i had extra money, i would have kept my 2000xl... got a S5000 or S6000, then got a korg dw3200 or rolands VS-series, then got some cool rack effect units. Instead I got the 8800. Get my drift? All in one. I wish it had multiple inputs, but my mixers grouping solves that easily. It just depends on what you want. Alright enough web browsing gonna go get food and get MVed up, peace

they have a check waiting for you over at Roland

yea, god forbid I like the machine and wanna set the story straight there is absolutely nothing wrong with the timing.

It's funny, people on here all day are talking about mpc's, sp1200's, asr10's, Reason, , Moog, Pro Tools, etc...Yet, you wouldn't say that to all them...Why? The same reason why people actually hate the MV, because it's the latest powerhouse sampler/sequencer/drum machine, and true mpc fanboys feel threatened by it. Otherwise, there would be no hostility like "**** the MV", people would just be like "eh, it's not for me"

I still like MPCs don't get me wrong, but the MV is just a better all-around machine, in my opinion. Its function and menus appeal to me a whole lot more than the overpriced and buggy mpc lines. Really, the only MPC that you can even compare to the MV is the the 4000 and that's just sad when you look at pricetags on the others.

Want to buy an mpc????

Just got back from GC. I spent about 3hrs on the MV-8800. I'm impressed. I'm sure it gets real complicated and deep but the basics seem easy to figure out. Its alot more visual than the MPC's but just as fast to sequence with. I wish it had more midi ins and outs like the MPC's. That's really my only gripe with the machine.

I'm not sure why people are talking about timing issues and quantizing being too tight and robotic with the MV. If anything it gives more parameters for tweaking the timing of your hits. The shuffle function and all the parameters involved there pretty much beat the hell out of the MPC. You can tweak the timing and shuffle of your hits alot more intricately than the MPC's swing %. I find it easier to make more human feeling drum tracks on the MV than on the MPC.

I still couldn't figure out a whole bunch of stuff on it but I think I was able to figure out the MV pretty fast for someone who's never touched one before.

I've only been on the MPC for a few months so I'm not stuck on the workflow and the MPC way of doing things. I'm also annoyed with Numark's inability to offer a solid official OS. The MV just feels like it has the same fast sequencing power of the MPC but also has the power and visual aid of a DAW.

So I'm gonna jump ship and get an MV. I will probably sell my 2500 and a bunch of other gear that I was planning on selling anyway to cover the cost of the MV.

I dunno maybe I'm just partial to the MP, but it seems like most compare the 8800 to the 4000 which is some what logical...

BUT...the thing is and I'm not sure if all you mpc traitors lol are thinking...is the MV8800 is pretty much rolands response to the 4000...yet we still have not seen the new MP that should be coming sooner then later...and maybe I just have high hopes, but i'm expecting the end all machine...coupled up with the mpk49 OH BOY!!

I think you guys may have just jumped shipped a bit early, I kno i'm not making a move until I see what the new MPC has to offer...

Trust me THE BEST is still to come...and yes I used the B word...

You have a lot of faith in Numark. :)

numark fu(kin blows donkey di(k all there products suck ass, thats why the new mpcs feel cheep, any how the new unreleased mpc might blow the MV out of the water however its not out yet :D
Until then.....the mv kills it as a all in one sample chop to mastered CD.

I mean I use a 2kxl and have no problem with it,but to sequence out songs is tedious and no to mention resampleing to 12 bit and on the MP takes forever. As for timing issues I was at Macros's house trying out the MV and there is no difference, swing or not its pad style sequencing just the same.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think that the 2kxl was made under the wing of Numark and thats why it feels sturdier,But the new ones feel chincy and cheep, also have poor limiting OS from what i've read. They look like playschool style.

Yeah the original 2KXL was Akai. Numark is really running Akai into the ground. Although, HARRY HUSTLE does have a point. The next MPC might just end up being the model to one up the MV. However, the way Numark has been running things leads me to think otherwise. Especially being a 2500 owner, JJ's OS was probably the only reason I've kept my 2500 for as long as I did. But with Numark's poor effort into upgrading and providing proper reliability in the MPC line, I highly doubt we will see a bright future with the MPCs. They decided to put out midi controllers instead of satisfying their MPC customers with a decent OS. Poor quality control on their part and it seems as though they are only interested in numbers now instead of putting out quality products.

Look at what they're putting out. The MPC 500, kind of a joke but I could see how its good for people in need of a portable unit. But Akai MSRP was way beyond what the actual machine is worth. Let alone if they do put out a new MPC that goes beyond what the MV will do, they will probably charge you and arm, leg, and your future children's and grandchildren's college money.

For what you get on the MV, I think Roland actual provides a pretty good deal. You could seriously throw out your MPC, your computer, audio interface, and/or your multi-track recorder and still be fine with the MV. Plus its all in one box.

I don't think so... The 4000 has been one of the worst selling mpcs there has been. Why? It's just too damn expensive. That's why the new mpcs have been getting smaller and smaller (1000 and 500) Yet they're still almost the same price as a MV and to about 1/4 of what the MV does.

Akai has just pissed me off with the way they never update the mpcs to fix the bugs or to just upgrade the capabilities. They just keep making more mpcs and ignoring the old ones. Which is a great way to make money, but not a great way to keep customors happy.

I mean look at the 1000...without the JJ OS, most people woulda ditched theirs, but luckily someone OTHER THAN AKAI came up with the new OS and steps the 1000 up a great deal. This is just a prime example.

With the MV8000, there were like 6 or 7 updates that came out for free after it was released. They all had huge upgrades and made big differences. Akai or Numark I guess now, should follow that example, and maybe I'll buy another MPC again

Agreed, the great sturdy mpcs are a thing of the past,I wouldn't count on Numark to come correct,i feel akai sold out and thats why when I purchased an MPC i got a 2kxl instead of a 1000 or a 2500.In theory they are better but less reliable, its like I would never buy a newmark turntable and also Alesis is under Numark as well, also mid to low grade quality.Makes peeps worry about our beloved MPCs heading down the wrong path.

There is a reason why diehard MPC fans will talk mostly about the 60,3000,2000,and 2kxl,not the more recent ones. Maybe the 4000 but even then when was that released?(I don't think it was released under Numark)
The MV is the most recently released fastest software and solid OS and updates, not the shifty (at best) JJOS numark style.

No I am not paid by roland  I have and use a 2kxl but, when it comes time to upgade which will be sooner than later, the decision is easy it seems.

IMO Akai has fallen victim the corporate shnanagens and now sells smoke in mirrior products that are inferior and aimed at entry level misicians.

A sad time for the legend of the MPC
