ok fam here it is.... I noticed that there has been numerous post by people in the forum that has yet to learn how to loop a sample, or make them fit to a metronome. They ask for tips, expert cats respond with help( while othets respond coldly with the dreaded "read the manual", look on page such-n-such). The manual tells you how to preform the function, but not the method of geting it right , or at what points to start a loop ect. I mean its cool to know that the mpc does all these cool functuions, like timestrech, tuning ect, but some people learn better from watching somebody else doing it hands on. To actually watch and listen to someone manipulate a sample, is way better than a vague outline of basic knownleadge. so my question is are the like tutorial videos or something that people can buy, to learn the ins and outs? Oh another thing.........all you cats that answer with the read the manual response, someimes insult peoples intelligence!!!!You sound very arrogant, with your nose in the air. Given some people dont read the manual and post a question, but the majority of the time, the manual doesent provide the info your looking for.
Or is there some type of secret code among the elite in the forum , that runs along the lines of " the game is to sold not to be told." I hoipe not cause that would go against everything this forum stand for. Rember you cats onthe next level had to learn too.......... peace and love

i hear what you are saying that it can sound arrogant to tell someone to read the manual. but many many times the information requested is supplied in the manual. i try to keep peace w/ the things i say and do and if i say something that comes off badly often it is not meant that way...with that said there is a certain glory had in taking the extra time and figuring out things on your own. much more satisfying indeed. also ive read some really basic questions that people say they just can't figure out. would they rather somebody else do it for you. RTFM is just another way of saying help yourself first.
i am suprised how kindly several nameless members of this site repeat over and over the same type newbie info. it is very gracious and patient but may be making everyone lazy! i guess it takes a forum to produce one beatmaker!
I love this site, check it religiously. maybe i am alone but where are soe of the heavyhitter-members that were on here daily a few months ago? perhaps they got bored w/ the redundancy of the posts...much respect goes to those who answer questions and those who bring interesting topics to the forum. maybe i should post more and read less???
maybe my love for this forum is making me wish only for the best!
peace to all members!

Speaking of arrogant, that signature is pretty rogant!

So much for Jesus being the symbol of humility !

If they can't spend the time to read the manual, they aren't dedicated enough to the MPC. If they're on some "hand me the answers to everything so I don't have to do any work" ish, **** them.

ill try to help. This is how i figured everything out.....with no ones help.

First, learn your "terminology" if you dont know what a word means, how the hell are you going to do it? So for example, what exactly is "timestretch" or "bpm match" and exactly how do those differ in function? what is "loop" or "cross fade loop" (btw. mpc cant cross fade loop-case in point though)

Realize that some people toss around terms and sometimes you may get confused because they are similar, but not the same ya know?

Also, read the manual. Yes i have read the entire manual. Do i know and remember everything?.......no, but the more you learn the better. This isnt the answer to all your problems.

MOST IMPORTANT
****sit down one day with just the mpc, no manual, nothing except the original disk that came with the mpc. now: "open window" on everything on the main screen and see whats there. Try to understand what it does. Then go to "shift+xxxxxx" and check out each sub menu, and "open window" on each item in those menus. If you do this and you know your "terminology" you should not be confused about where or what anything is.......using it is a differant story, but at least you wont waste your time looking for functions. The more familiar you are with the mpc, the more you will realize how to actually do things.

Anything else you are gonna have to be more specific. remember though, If you understand the terminology you will be in the right directions, but also try to understand "terminology and its sub-parts"

I.e. If i know that "looping" means to loop a sample from beginning to end, i must also realize that there is a "begining point" and an "end point" and if i realize that i can adjust these and where they are in the mpc, i will be able to loop. Now you need to know how turn on and off the loop function; but if you dont know how to trim a sample, you wont be able to loop a sample or realize that you can turn on and off the loop.........I know im blabbing but you get the point.

so what i suggest for your looping problem is to go to the mpc with just the OG mpc disk. Load a simple drum sample. Go to the trim menu. Look at the screen, highlight everything, move the knob and see what everything does. Realize that trim menu is for triming the sample and there are sub menus in there i.e. "Loop sub menu"(f2) is where you can set your loop points and turn loop on and off.

Another piece of looping advice: while in trim menu Go to edit(f5), and select "loop from beginning to end"-this will automatically set the loop points to whatever you have hilighted in the trim screen, next go to the "loop sub menu"(f2)-turn loop on and hold down a pad and you will hear it loop. You can adjust the loop points accordingly. Realize though that the "trim sub menu"(f1) and "loop sub menu"(f2) are two differant functions. i.e. you can shorten the loop in "loop sub menu" and it wont crop your sample, just the loops after the sample is played......and if you adjust the points in the "trim sub menu", it will crop the sample.

peace, dont be afraid to ask stupid questions, but also dont be stupid and be afraid to use the search function.

Science, Cyrus and Incurablebeatlust I`m feel all of you cats. The internet can be cold sometimes. If my friend came over my house and ask me how did I do such and such I would glady show him or her and advice the manual pages to get more information. Also I would lend him or her extra reading material to learn the basics of the science. It`s true the internet isn`t real human interaction and you can say what you want to anybody; however, I will always keep in mind that a real person is on the other side of the screen with the same passion for beatmaking as I, You, Premo, Pharell, Timbo, Dre, Evil Dee, Kanye West, Em, Just Blaze, Swizz, Jazzy Pha, Jay Dee, or anyone on this forum. Yes it is true what they said, "This isn`t rocket science anybody can do it; however each one of this producers had a friend or engineer to show them so pointers besides just "read the manual."
:D

Reading the manual is necessary asking for help is human
:D
I for one thanked everyone who step to the screen and help me out.

Thank you and like my boys lets have a beer!!

I learned the majority of the stuff I know by just asking people who already knew. Remember in school when the teacher said "There are no such things as stupid questions"? Well that's true. I've accumulated a wealth of knowledge in this music sh$t, but if I asked a "simple" question on this site, and someone responded with RTFM, I'd probably less likely to share the knowledge I have.
Be open and be positive and you'll be suprised at what you might recieve in return.

Good post! i think the problem is that some of us haven't read the manual for so long, that we forgot how useless it it. There's no secret code or hidden agenda on this forum though, some people just hate seeing the same questions pop up all the time.

YOu need to do your own research before involving the list. There is no excuse for posting basic midi questions or basic MPC function questions when there is so much info readily available. If you ask about midi transmitting audio, or how to sample a sound, you are really lazy and deserve to be clowned until blood is drawn.

Most Ppl act the way they do because it is the internet and you can't do schit to them.......or ppl get tired of typing the same old answer over and over again.......or they are just a$$holes.....my man Sci know he can holla at about whatever's on his mind.......but for the youngin just getting the mpc...I don't mind helping them.....obviously he doesn't want to read the manual or his MPC didn't come with a manual and he doesn't know where to get the manual online.......all of us should be helpful...because all of us had questions before and there is someone that knows something about the mpc that you don't no matter what level you are on........If I ask a question....then that means I am looking for an answer......maybe that individual read the manual and didn't understand it...so someone somewhere can clarify that for them.......:-)
