Line in problem.

Just copped a new Stanton SMX-201 2ch DJ mixer to run my Turntable and CD/DVD player into My MPC 1000 it only has 1 pair of line out jacks where my old Numark mixer had 2 ( Amp L & R and REC L & R) I was using the Rec jacks on the Numark...Now the problem, when i go to the Record window on the MPC, when i adjust the MPC's REC Gain and the Stantons Master/Ch Fader and Ch Gain I get a signal on the right channel(on the MPC screen) when theres nothing being output.?? I didnt have this problem w/ the Numark-the master vol on it had no effect on the output signal just the fader/x-faders. The stantons output is stndard RCA and the MPC's REC Ins are Balanced(I dont know why) i have it hooked up w/ the same cable i was using w/ the Numark a shielded RCA to 1/4"(unbal)...so i went and copped an RCA to 1/4" BAL adapter and i didnt get any signal to the MPC. I set the MPC's REC Gain to a lil better than half way and then I adjust the Stantons master until I get 1 block showing on the MPC screen then I turn it down til its gone...But now Im not getting a real strong signal, I always gotta Normalize... Anyone got any solutions or info? Please and Thanx in Advance I posted this in this forum cuz it seemd logical, if i shoulda posted it somewhere else, sorry...

Nobody??? I get a signal on my MPC's screen in the Record window, when no record is playing-or any other sample source 4 that matter..on the right channel 1st, then if i push the master(on the mixer) or the Rec Gain(on MPC) i'll get it on both channels, so i adjust the gains until i dont get any signal showing, then i sample but i cant get a loud enough signal in the MPC this way(some records i get better signal, some worse...12", SHORT lp'S,45'S--LOUDER SIGNAL)... When i get the signal and im not playing any sample source, strangely i dont here any hum in the speakers, tho...but i f i leave the gains set to where i get like 2 blocks showing on thempc's record window(screen) then i sample my record,cd/dvd,etc.., sometimes the sample had a hum in it...thats why i adjust the gains till i dont get any signal showing---which is y im here looking 4 a solution. Please help....Thanx...

I can't understand exactly what you're saying... You've got signal coming from the stanton mixer, even when volume's at zero? Are all your cables shielded and everything's insulated from interference? My stuff's a rat's nest, I have buzzing like crazy... Sonically inferior Stanton mixer may also have something to do with it (probably).

I try and minimize it by only having the minimum amount gear turned on while sampling...

turn some stuff off...get lonely with it...

Dude my cables are shielded, not some radio shack cables either...Got em at Guitar Center. My cables are all straight and orderly, no mess..Like i said I had a crappy Numark Mixer i got 11 years ago when i bought my first turntables...So sonically inferior Stanton...i think not...I see dudes using straight junk $40 mixers on them youtube vids.. I dont get no buzzing tho.. My numark mixer didnt do what the stantons doing, but it had 2 sets of outs and i used the ones that didnt react to the master volume just the ch fader and x-fader.. When im sampling i only have my Mpc,TT, 2 Mixers, My monitors, and occasionally my Micron. I think its cuz the MPC's Inputs are balanced, but Rca cables arent balanced...so an RCA to 1/4" unbalanced cable is the only option if your DJ mixer(like most of them) only have RCA outs.. So I think thats the problem, but what can i possibly do? And if that aint it what could it be?

Plugging unbalanced cables into the MPCs Record Ins should not be a problem.

Guys i tried everything i could, bought new cables-cheap ones and exact replacements for my original ones), I rewired my cartridge, rewired my Mixer, plugged the mixers power supply in an outlet that no other gear was plugged into, I tried my old turntable, i tried 2 different cartridges. My mixer and trurntable arent by the speakers. This is just baffling me, and really Pissin me off. Now i have a question,When my MPC's Rec in meters show a lite signal and no signal is being sent, should i worry about this? will it ruin my Inputs? As long as My MPC's Main Vol, and my main mixers Master arent turned all the way up, i dont get any hum when i see a signal on the MPC's screen. Someone else out there has to have had this happen, someone gotta be able to help a brother out. I tried evrything, but maybe I overlooked something?

hmmm are you trying this from a mono record?? or have you tried multiple records and still only get low signal on one side?

rca to unbalanced 1/4 should be fine, run it from the output of the mixer directly to the mpc...and just make sure your setting is correct because on the mixer there is a line/phono option so make sure your channel is ok, then raise the volume on your mixer almost all the way and make sure your cross fader is ALL THE WAY to whichever side/channel your trying to play...on your mpc turn up the volume and input and see if you still get the same results...

if you do all that and your positive you have your cables ran correctly then I hate to say it but there may be a faulty piece of equipment in your chain....wether it be the MP, table, or mixer...

but if I was to say I would say something is either ran wrong or is wrong with the mixer....because obviously it's not boosting the signal as it should...

no HHustle. im not getting a low signal, im getting signal activity showing on the MPC's REC window, when no signal is playing...I didnt have this problem with my old DJ Mixer, but i was using the ouputs on it that werent effected by the master vol.(old Numark Bluedog that came with amplified monitors- had 2 outs 1 for monitors and one to the PA/stereo...) Example-- When i turn on my gear, and i go MODE+ Record(On MPC), then i adjust the REC LVL knob about half way, then i adjust the DJ Mixers Master, and i dont even get it turned 1/2 way up and it shows activity on the MPC's Meters...And no record is playing... Does the same thing when TT is turned off and my cd player is on, but not playing.. I tried new cables, i tried rewiring the mixer, the cartridge, i tried another cartridge, nothing seems to correct this. The Mixer is Brand New-2 weeks old. Now thaat you know what im talkin bout, maybe u got somethin else? Thanx tho...

i cant believe this hasnt happened to anyone else... Question when u guys out there go to the sample window and u turn the rec lvl up then adjust your DJ mixers master, all while no sound is playing-but tt is turned on, but not rotating, do u guys have any activity showing on the MPC's window in the Left and Right signal meters?

Um, not sure if I'm gonna be any help here but I run with a vestax 05 mkII and I have a very very low signal in the rec window of the MPC but its so miniscule I don't bother adjusting this.


So as I read it you're turning things down to escape this prob, and then have nothing of substantial volume to hear?


Have you tried it without adju8sting theswe levels to see how it sounds?

..if i leave the Master/Rec Lvls set to where i'm getting signal activity with nothing playing, and then i sample something i notice a lite hum in the background of the sample. I was hoping there was a solution 4 this...I figured i'd be able to get the Master turned up to at least halfway, before getting any feedbackor whatever u call..getting a signal on your input meters when no sound is being output from mixer into MPC. When u first go to the sample window and start adjusting the DJmixers master and MPC's REC LVl and absolutely no sound is playing thru the mixer, do u get any signal activity on ur MPC's Meters? Basically thats what i really need to know, cuz if this is normal 4 everyone else, than i spent all this time illin out, and wastin my time and all of u guys time too.. Also when im getting this signal activity, the meters on the dj mIXER ARENT SHOWING ANY ACTIVITY, NOR IS MY MAIN MIXER.
