tell me why

hi everyone, i'm new to this game, in fact i don't own an mpc1000. Basically, I'm a scratch DJ who plays live with a band and i'd love to hear about what can be done with this machine as far a live performances compared to to studio work. Can i hook up a turntable/mixer to it? Can you play it live or do the pads not like that type of abuse?Any help or info is appreciated. I'm trying to figure out if this is the machine for me.

You can play it live, but I would practice it for awhile before I would do a live show with it. It takes awhile to get used to the pads. When your new at it, they double and triple trigger alot. It's just like anyother instrument. You can hook up a turntabe and mixer but that's strictly for sampling. It won't put FX on a line in, or mix a sequence with the line in.

i see, ...what about foot pedals? what can you do if you hook up a pedal?is it like a delay, echo, reverb, or distort?
Also, what does it come with brand new? I see it has some type of operating system....does it come with software needed to reinstall said software in case of a crash?
what would i need to buy with it to get started? does it come with a power supply/cable?
can i sample with it, or do i sample with a comp. and transfer the files?
can it loop samples/ beats?

The MPC doesn't have a phono preamp, you prob. need put the turntable through a DJ mixer first. Input is for sampling only, you can't add live FX from the MPC, but once a sound is sampled you can immediately assign it to a pad, set up 1 or 2 internal FX, and use FX Send to send the sample through them.

You can put external FX on the inputs and/or outputs, it's all line-level signals. I have a Korg DL8000R delay (MIDI sync slave) on outs 3/4, and an Alesis AirFX on the main outs.

dude, look at it this way......the mpc1k is a sampling drum machine and sequencer. its for composing beats and tracks. if you are in a band, then your drummer needs to be able and willing to follow the MPC timing.........or you could just get rid of your drummer altogether for the MPC..........actually, you could probably ditch the entire band for the MPC !!

i often fold up my sweatshirt and put it on the turntable platter and the MPC on top of that and then ya have the mpc on on side of the dj mixer and a technics1200 on the other.
