it says "Wrong File" ! What should I do ?!

i recently got an Akai MPC 2500 & i've been trying to load samples from my memory card to my mpc. i loaded a file already up in there, but after that it doesnt let me anything else that's in my memory card. whenever i try to load a file to my mpc there's a window that pops up and says "Wrong File"

CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT ?

You should... Search on these forums as this has been discussed many time over and over and over and over.

it's either the save bug, or a non 16-bit .wav file.

sorry, i'll try searching for other threads.

any way to fix that save bug ? i'm gonna try to see if the samples are 16-bit or not.

Had this happen yesterday, i'd only experienced the save bug in creating folders... but had one of my Programs give me a 'Wrong File' error!

Getting to the point now where Im going to have to backup my HD everytime I turn on the MPC, which is crap! The reason I got the MPC was to try and speed up my workflow not slow it down!

so i've searched around but didnt find much. the thing for me is.... what's the solution ?!

if anyone had this problem.... what did you do to fix it ?

I'm sorry that most around here are too over it to tell you of a serious bug in the MPC software. You can create problems by overwriting files. This can show up as the unit freezing after you create a folder, or you try to load something and it sez "wong file". I mostly notice it by trying to copy projects to the computer and it refuses to read a file.

It has not been fixed for a long time and many users who otherwise love the MPC are thinking it will never be fixed. You should try to avoid the problem by never overwriting files, instead create a new folder and save entire memory each time. If you have the problem now, copy whatever you can off the MPC, format the disk and copy it all back. Then never overwrite a file.

Just because this has been discussed to death before doesn't mean it is not a very real problem for you. I encourage everyone who has this problem to contact Akai and feel free to complain here. Its inexcusable, disruptive and completely fixable.

okay, well i started messing around with the samples i want to load in. the problem about the "Wrong Files" were they weren't 16-bit. so i just converted them to 16-bit. now it's all good !

Honestly I am constantly overwriting saves(samples, programs, entire memory, sequence and song data and the whole nine) and I never get this bug from doing this. I have gotten it once or twice, but that was in the beginning stages of using mpc. I haven't see this bug on my 2500 in 6-7 months maybe even a little longer.

Yeah its weird, not everyone experiences it. Yet for those who do it is always there if overwriting projects.

And of course I have made a twat of myself over this crusade because Querico found the problem was his wave files

To be fair it IS a serious bug...

Can't overwrite a file for fear of damaging it, so create a new folder, oh no thats froze the mpc and I've lost the changes I made.

Yes there are ways around the problem but this is a £900 piece of kit, you shouldn't have to worry that saving over your file is going to break it! I'm now seriously considering a change to JJ as the more I use the MPC in a live scenario the more the fear rises!

Yeah, for someone that constantly has an issuse with saving like this I would definitely recommend trying the JJ OS.
