Hi,
I am into buying an mpc 2000XL and i found one yesterday in a pawn shop.
It had the zip (jazz i think) instead of the floppy, it was the white one, i didnt turn it on to check about memory and it had no 8 individual outs.
It looked in a good shape. No noticebale scratched and stuff.
I inspected the slider and all the buttons and i think that some of them were kinda loose.
Its price was $599.

You think its a good price?

Thank you.

if this helps, I bought my used 2000 no options with floppy in good condition for $750. Maybe it was overpriced? But I feel happy with my purchase.....

as far as that jazz drive, i heard some things about those going bad but thats with all drives. anyway, i dont see why this wouldnt be a good buy...as long as EVERYTHING worked

6hundred for an XL isnt that bad, i would concider that who ever sold it in the pawn shop, probally did it for a reason though and didnt leave with that much cash. I would ask to turn it on and check it out. Make a list of things to check and also ask about return policys. Just what i would recommend

i got my XL for $550. but $600 isn't too bad. Just make sure everything works tho.

yeah $599 isnt bad, but its all depending how it works. there are other 2000xl's with more features that cost more, so ur getting about ur moneys worth. crucial though that everything works of course, check how the zipdrive works loading/saving stuff, if it records sequences correctly, and if the audio works. so many things to check out but those r the basics. regardless, if it works fine $599 is a good deal :D

BEFORE YOU BUY IT, BRING A ZIP DISK AND SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS HOW TO WORK IT. TRY IT OUT FIRST! YOU DON'T WANT TO BUY A BROKE UNIT. I WOULD ASK TO BRING THE PRICE DOWN TO $500-IT IS A PAWN SHOP! JUUICE

Is it a ZIP drive or a JAZ drive? They're different. Both are dated now but JAZ drives and cartridges really have gone the way of the dinosaur whereas ZIPs are clinging on in there. It's unlikely to be a JAZ but it could be one hooked up to internal SCSI. If it is a JAZ forget the drive rip it out and get a ZIP off eBay.

I doubt an internal Jaz drive would fit in that 3.5" bay. If you're going to rip whatever drive it is out anyway, try and get a card reader. Will probably (read DEFINITELY) cost more than a Zip drive, but you'll be glad you did. I recently picked up an external SCSI card reader/writer for my 2k Classic and I'm still evaluating it, but so far it is easier to work with than my old Jaz (that's right!) drives were. I threw a combo floppy drive/card reader in my studio PC so I could transfer samples easily back and forth and so far couldn't be happier. Once I use it more I'll post more for all the 2k users out there debating the move to CF.

Peace,
KM
