JJ MANUAL::: HELP NEEDED!

Hi. For the pdf manual I could need help on the Following Functions of the JJ OS:

MIDI Program Change: What does it do / What's it good for / How to
Recordable Track Mutes: How To..
Simult Sequence: What's the use for it / What do you do with it personally?

>> Plz create a little step-by-step tutorial and post it either here or send me a private message. Utilize the Screenshot function if you wnat to. I'd rather prefer a PM, because that way I can save it in my mailbox.

EDIT:: The above mentioned point's are off the list. BUT if you find any interesting and unusual production techniques especially with the JJ OS let me know via PM. Oh and send me links if you find something important in the realms of Hardware (spare parts etc.), Tools, Tips and tricks (Production), Mags, or whatever whatever. Basically anything which you think could be interesting for an MPC User. But plz: no personal Myspace stuff or alike

2. hold REC or OVERDUB and hit PLAY START or Play
3. while playing.. mute and unmute the tracks....
4. on the TOP RIGHT of the track mute screen make USE EVENTS say :ON
5. you recorded track mutes.


if you mess up click MODE - STEP EDIT
view TRACK MUTES and you can erase or add mute events.

Add:
A quick way to erase all (accidentially?) recorded track mutes is by pressing the "erase" button in the track mute screen, then "do it" (F5).

Also notice that everytime you activate record (or overdub) track mute events are created to reflect the current status of muted/unmuted tracks.

If you dont want to use recordable track mutes at all, switch "Use events" on the top right corner of the track mute screen to "off"

The field "PC" stands for "Program Changes". These are midi messages sent to the selected midi output/channel (field "midi") to select a certain sound/patch/program on your connected equipment. Please read the manual of the midi devices connected too see how they work with program changes).

By default the field is set to "off", no program change events will be sent out.

The easiest way to use program changes is to select a number in the PC field. Everytime the number is changed a program change message is sent out, The mesage is also sent out everytime you press "Play Start".

If the field is set to "Seq", the program change events in your sequence will be used. They are created by either inserting them in step edit mode (see p. xx) or by recording them via midi (some midi keyboards have buttons to send program change events, which can be recorded).

Simult Sequence: What's the use for it / What do you do with it personally?

I use Simult Sequence when I have an internal drum loop that I want to try different things over. I put the drum loop sequence in the 'SS' position and then create a new midi sequence over it.

It could also be used for a Continuous Controller template that you want to apply to various sounds/patches/samples.

Also, I have run into situations in which 16 midi channels are just not enough, and I make a new sequence to place in 'SS' that has the additional data that the sequence requires.

Using MIDI program change

To change presets on an external midi device use the following procedure:

1. From the main screen, highlight the MIDI field and select the appropriate midi output and channel.

2. Now, highlight the "PC" (Program Change) field. Default for this field is "OFF" -- no program changes are sent.

3. The first selection after "OFF" is "Seq---" This allows Program changes that have been recorded into the sequence to send the PC commands.

4. The following selections are numbers 1 to 128. These allow manual selection of the corresponding programs on the external midi device.

5. If your external device stores programs in multiple banks, press the WINDOW key while still in the "PC" field to bring up the expanded functions. Highlight the "Bank select" toggle and change it to "YES". You will now be able to change program banks from the "MSB" (most significant bit) and "LSB" (least significant bit) fields. If you do not know which type of BANK SELECT messages your external device responds to, consult that device's manual and/or midi implementation chart.

Yes.

Be sure that the first sequence of the song --- or the sequence you designate as the 'ref to' --- has a simult sequence active, then convert the sequence as you normally would.

If you're asking about playing directly from song mode I don't know because I've always used song mode to assemble sequences in order --- as Akai and JJ intended.
