MPC 1000 or ASR 10

You have to understand that most cats use the MPC as just part of their setup. I currently use the 1000 and the ASR 10 in my set up. You should keep the 1000 and see if your friend wants to sell the ASR 10. Yes the sample engine is way better than the whole mpc series except maybe the 4000. I also an emax SEHD and an ASR X. All of the piece of gear I own do different things. I ust the MPC for drum and sequencing and I use either the ASR 10, X or Emax to sample. The USB connection on the MPC save me alot of time when transfering recycled drums from my computer. When I first started using the ASR 10 in 96 I chopped my samples the old school way by adjusting the startand the end points of the samples.

they both have ups and downs


i will say the asr-10 shits on most boards even out today with its on-board fxs ( and i own a motif es too )



the main downs sides to the asr-10 is:

16 megs ram MAX
8 tracks
and 70-80% chance it will over heat if u leave it on for more than a couple hours



and wtf u talkin about the asr-10 isnt good in hiphop

Yeah true. But most of their beats are bland. No offense. But the best beats for hip hop are made on mostly a mpc. Listen to Blackalicious, Chemist, Shadow, Lyrics Born or any current real hip hop coming out. My first sampler was the Asr. It doesnt have the thump that the Mpc has. But if you dont really chop breaks and you need the keys and sh*t to play them maybe. But drum for drum the Mpc kills the Asr.

**** that... Necro, RZA, Stoupe from Jedi Mind Tricks and a bunch of other cats all use an ASR10 and they drop the banging ish@!

What it really comes down to is the samples. You need to find those ill loops.

I choose MPC over ASR because of the pads. You can always attach a midi controller keyboard to make melodies. Thats all in my opinion.

Your are right. Its all about the pads. I guess thats what its all about.

Just use the one you feel most comfortable with.
