Best software for editing, FX, and sequencing.

I dont use software--so take this with a grain of salt---but all the cats I know who really rock the software thing (insted of just play around with it) use protools.

I said it b4. I use Nuendo. I haven't had any complaints. Nuendo 1.62 Now but I have a 1.4 XP1700 comp 768MB DDR 2700 (maybe 2100 not sure having a brain fart) ram. I have mixed with no problems songs that exceeded 100 tracks of audio with real time FX's running through out. Now I use my computer for producing the track after vox are laid adding flavor and intricate details in the track then mixing. I make the basic part of the song using primarily the MPC and triton, on occation other stuff just experimenting. I understand that Pro Tools is the industry standard but there are albums out that are recorded and mixed using other software. Cypress Hill was mixed and I do beleive recorded using nuendo by Rob Hill and advid Nuendo user. Also very few seemed to know about the other Big Dawg. SEQUOIA.... This is a high end software solution. My point is please do not buy into the Industry Standard Hype. I know you all know that just becuase you have a PRO TOOLS HD system dosn't mean your album will sell. This is not aimed @ anyone just bring reality in to focus here.
I must add that if you look around the net you will find that all these systems can crash from time to time Including the pro tools HD system. I know, I have witnessed the horror on the face of the studio owner B4. Not a pretty picture. Computers are man made they will fail trust me. Most of the need minor tweaks and they are good as new. A good rule of thum while I am here DEFRAG your HD with NORTONS SYSTEM WORKS OFF THE CD_ROM NOT INSTALLED each month if you do heavy recording and erasing.

Like Ron, I too use Nuendo and have'nt had any problems. I run a 1.3 GHZ AMD Duron processor with 512 MB RAM plus a 100 GB hard drive.
Pro Tools is cool ,but I think it is a tad bit overrated.
