I just emailed akai tech support about the "pad problem" and this was his reply:

"There is a pad upgrade kit which provides a hotter trigger response. Please note that this installation should only be completed by a qualified service center. It is NOT recommended that an end user try to install this kit.
Our Parts Dept. can be contacted for kit pricing at the number below. An authorized service center called TSI can do this installation. They can be contacted at 201-670-1767. This modification will not be considered a Warranty item. "

Is this something new? I know some of you guys were talking about a new pad replacement that is coming out in the next three months. Thanks.

HAH
so you can pay another 100 dollars

"hotter trigger response"

FOLKS:

if this doesn't mean INTERLINK ELECTRONICS FSRs then this is STILL not like the predeceasing MPCs. remember that.

when this comes out, someone who buys it will need to take pics and thoroughly document the hell out of it so people konw WhAT THEY ARE GETTING. akai's duped you already, don't let them do it twice.

I just spoke to a tech guy at AKAI PROFESSIONAL and this new pad fix is scheduled for July. For the moment it is priced at around $150 US but it might vary a touch he said, $10 bucks either way as they are waiting for some prices on a piece to come in. The new pads will resemble the older MPC units, that is to say it will be one sheet with the raised rubber squares.
I will probably buy one and will let you guys know how it turns out.

Do you know if Akai is manufacturing this pad? I wonder how much it will cost to have it installed....

they need to drop the price another $50 for all our troubles, let alone continuing to rip everyone off chagring $105 for the exisiting set of sh!t pads that are gonna break down on everyone who previously replaced them.

I wouldnt be surprised if they charged $50 for the replacement or more.
does anyone see the "bait & switch" tactics they're trying to pull?

Well, if its $150 and its gonna cost more cash to install, its still cheaper to roll with Nym. I don't mind doin' it myself to save $50-$60. Plus the cost of shipping my MP! They owe everybody with a 1k a set of them pads for free. They need to start askin' for receipts and proofs of purchase and start shippin' out them pads! (Like that's gonna happen). And they better be Interlink!

Please do. Who is TSI anyway? Last time I asked VST to fix somethin' they said labor was $60. If that helps put things in perspective. Not sure what TSI charges?

I just found out that Akai is recommending TSI for customers on the East Coast to save the customer on shipping. That's cool and all. But the fact of the matter is that TSI has no credibility here on the forums. So there's nothing to say about their reputation.

Whenever I need parts, I'll just stick with VST because they're reputation is extremely good. Any time I've had a problem with parts, VST are always quick to take care of the problem without any hassles, lies or any other bull$h!t that you would expect from Akai. So even though it may cost more to pay for shipping, I'm paying for excellent service. That's what matters most to me.
