Please give as much feedback/criticism as possible...

I'm posting this in response to this thread, so you know where this is coming from:

About expanding the “Grab” function, into a new “Chop Shop”…
Here’s where it started:
http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php ... ht=tapping

Basically, this would take 3 buttons pressed (shift, F6, Do It) in the region page, and then playback is cued for realtime chopping and auto-assigning into a fresh program by tapping pads, in rhythm, during realtime playback.

Very easy to implement for Akai…
Very easy to create fresh programs full of new chops without breaking stride.
Please let me know what you think…

Normally, when in the Trim/LP page on the 4000, pressing F6 plays back the sample from start to end, allowing for the user to change, or “Grab”, 4 settings in rhythm, during realtime playback.
1. Start Point (F2)
2. End Point (F3)
3. Loop Start (F4)
4. Loop End (F5)
This is a truly great page/feature.
I like it so much I want it expanded in the next flagship to make things even easier/quicker.

I would like to see the grab function expanded to the region page.
In the new flagship’s region page, all functions would remain identical to how they are currently on the 4000, except for one addition.

When holding down the shift button, and pressing F6, a pop-up window appears, asking if you would like to create a new program (named after the sample), “yes” is toggled as default, it will also ask if you want next start point = previous end point, “yes” is also toggled as default. Hit “Do it”

The sample is now cued for playback in Alpha Chop.
Playback + the first new start point + the first new pad assignment, is triggered by pressing any pad.

2nd pad tapped marks the next chop, and assigns it to that pad. 3rd pad tapped assigns 3rd start point chop to that pad. And so on and so on…

All newly assigned start points, each on their own pad.
Also, the default end point for each new pad, is the next pads start point. Automatically.

This would allow the user to assign 16 new start points, live, during realtime “shift+F6” playback by tapping pads 1-16 (or more, as many as 96 in 6 banks if you’re quick switching banks on the fly), in a brand new program.

Playback is stopped when the sample plays to completion, or when F6 is hit again.

When playback stops, if you have not selected to create a new program, all the region start and end points will be exactly where you tapped them in realtime.

If you have selected to create a new program, then the default in the new program created by this new function should be:
1. All zones set to one-shot
2. Polyphonic notes:1

That’s just how we do it. 8)

This could also eventually be expanded to include the option for doing the exact same process with tapping multiple loop points, and taking “Transwaves” into the future.

As easy mo bee said in the beat kings dvd,"That's cool and all,but I don't really want a program doin that for me."I kinda feel the same way.I would rather just make all the chops myself the old fashion way.I've tried programs that kind of do what you described and they are good in there own right, but I like sampling in little chops and fine tuning them myself.

ye it feels much more rewarding to be doing that than relying on the mpc

Shame on you two for responding w/o reading the sh!t.
Y'all thaught you were "keeping it real"...

Nope. Nothing does anything close to this.

This is the exact opposite of the machine doing it for you.

This is you tapping out the exact chops you want IN REALTIME on the pad you want each chop assigned to. The different chops auto assign to the pad, when you tap it :!:

Do you know how quick you could chop up records staying in the vibe?
No more wasting time assigning to pads after you chop.
Your chopping in realtime is what assigns to that pad...
...feel me now ?? 8)

Still like the old way better.I realize what you were sayin about tapping them out yourself, but when you've chopped a certain way for some time and it's almost second nature without thinking..it's pretty hard to try anything else.Well for me it is.

So you mean the sample plays, and while it plays you hit this "slice here" button whenever you want a chop? Then by the end it could ask you if you want to keep this chop. and you could say yes or no. then assign it to the pads.. coz thatd be pretty cool, real time chopping.

I use to have that when I had an Zoom st-224 sampler.
all start and end points had to be edited in realtime.
can be pretty anoying whenever chopping a single hihat doe.

Peace

true enough but it would be dope for non drum break samples.. plus if you could add some leeway on each side of the chop as an option then fix it up after you record it'd be a lot quicker... still i am happy with my xl and how I chop. But it'd be a cool feature.

This is a great idea, and similar to what I posted in the MPC500 feature request thread. I think this feature (or a similar one) would be perfect especially for the MPC500, due to the limited screen space.

The code for this feature is already there (playing sample, adding start and end points, assigning to pads), all they have to do, more or less, is "wrap" them together.

No. I mean as the sample plays you chop by tapping your pads.

Each time you tap a pad, that exact point in the sample is assigned right there, to that pad. Every time you tap another pad, another new chop point is assigned right there to that pad.

Chop & assign in realtime until you run out of pads :!:

I'd love it.

sounds dope. N e idea if this is just 4 the 4k? how about the 2kl?
I know I gotta zone 'em out on 2kl, but I sure would love not having to do that altogether.

It's for the NO K .... Akai isn't about implement something that useful.

They've been ignoring our ideas for years....
